Any estimate on Orangetown?

Orangetown would've started using the system last summer if the coverage was up to acceptable levels in South Nyack. They're still waiting for grant money to come in before they can go ahead and build out the new site there. They did use the system for the St Patrick's Day parade in Pearl River and were pleased with the results.

Thank you! I must say that it is such a pleasure listening to this system. Nice and clean, no static and consistent volume, and that listening on a scanner! When I started working in Rockland, we were all low band simplex and the static along with ignition noise on some of the old Motracs was enough to make your ears ring after 8 hours!

I was told by Chauffer6 that I was wrong when I said they would encrypt. I have been warned about talking about encryption but I am only following up on what is posted.

Clarkstown encrypted a TACTICAL talkgroup, not the dispatch talkgroup as was stated by Chauffer6 certain takgroups would be encrypted. The zone controller had to be updated to reflect the decision by clarkstown. As of this post there are no plan to encrypt any further talkgroups Period.

So it works in Nyack but not S. Nyack? If Clarkstown is using, it is there an issue getting signal into S. Nyack or is it just Grandview?

Clarkstown has nothing to do with South Nyack or Grandview, which are dispatched by Orangetown PD (301) hence the reason orangetown has not switched.

I will also refer you to the link that svfd17 posted above as to what was said.

Keep in mind that out of 21 police talkgroups on the system, only 6 of them are encrypted and they SHOULD be encrypted because they're for sensitive ops. Clarkstown's SIU talkgroup is what their detectives will use for undercover ops, sting ops, etc. The other 5 encrypted are the District Attorney, Drug Task Force 1&2 and Intel Task Force 1&2. Anyone who thinks that should be broadcast in the clear obviously never walked a day in their shoes. If I'm responding to a barricaded subject in a house, I do not want him/her knowing that I'm moving from one position to another so they can take a few pop shots at me because they are listening in. The point was that none of the PRIMARY police talkgroups are encrypted and they intend to remain that way. But they have the option of switching to a secure tac when the need arises. I personally wish more PD's would go Rocklands route. Everyone thinks that will cause departments to go full-time ENC, but there are numerous systems set up this exact way (clear for dispatch/secure for tactical and sensitive ops) and it works just fine.

Seems like both sides are coming through on the simulcast now.

It's a console patch. It sounds terrible. Sounds VOX activated.

Hey guys, I've been listening to Clarkstown police 156.195 for the last few years now never had a problem as of yesterday it went silent then a few hours later I heard some traffic one guy stated he was "radio repair" but there Ems paging VHF is still operating normally. Does anyone know what's going on?

156.195 and 155.160 are two entirely different systems.

156.195 is used to simulcast Clarkstown PD's primary talkgroup on the County's trunked system. If the simulcast link goes down, it goes down. Whenever they get the chance to reconnect it, they do. There is no significant operational impact if the link is off line.

On the other hand, 155.160 is used by 201 to page your corps, and the Congers-Valley Cottage, Nanuet Community, Nyack Community ambulance corps, and their respective medic units. Should that system go down, there would be a significant operational impact.
