I had always considered the Yaesu FRG-7000 a bit overdone regarding the color trim but here is one that makes the Frog look boring:

Either National Panasonic had a special version for the Japanese market or someone wanted to spice up a '4800.

The prices from sellers in Japan have really gone up in recent weeks.

The Raddy RF919 looks like a “ Toy “. I ordered one, great radio, bandwidth, etc but I couldn’t handle the soft muting issue so sent it back, if it wasn’t for that I would have kept it.

Holy Crap pjxii, that is crazy. The Panasonic RF-2900 was a great radio for it’s time but that was a along time ago. You would be out of your Vulcan mind to pay that, what was the seller thinking ? That price is insanity. I think that radio would go for maybe $100 at best now. Yes it was a good radio for it’s time but that time has passed. You win the internet today for the most overpriced radio.​

The asking price for legacy radios is crazy, Collins, National, Drake, Kenwood, Icom Yaesu, etc. is crazy. The oldest legacy radio I have is probably my Sony ICF-2010 or my GE Super Radio. I still have my Icom R-7000 and my Kenwood R-5000 and both still going strong, guess they can be considered legacy radios also.

At first I thought it was a joke but then I read the seller's description and he says that it would be sent needing a signature because of the price, so he actually seems serious. He does state that shipping is free which is nice of him. His other items for sale all seem sensibly priced.

eBay asking prices have gotten ridiculous for some absolute basic or even poor performing receivers. I think most of them are second hand finds (the pure AI descriptions are a dead give away) and the seller is using eBay's AI suggested price. Most eBay sellers have just gotten so lazy and don't even do the slightest bit of research on what they've found when selling it. Makes me appreciate Randy aka BigApple59 to no end (he is away for a week and seems to have pulled all his listings until he's back), he actually tests and fully describes everything that he sells and knows this hobby.

I really love legacy receivers (still working on setting up my radio room) but I'm at a point where I only buy if I find a very good deal anymore on one I've never had.

The colouring of radio dials / knobs was very common in UK military aircraft of the 1940s.

The listing says there is 'paint on some of the knobs', so perhaps a previous owner did that for some reason.

RE listings of classic radios being high -- I have a Sony ICF38, a really good MW/FM portable. I got it new at Fry's for around $30.

When it was discontinued, I saw listings for the radio as high as $200.

It's a great radio, yeah -- terrific emergency radio because of performance and battery life -- but $200? Not worth *that* much.
