I reached out to an old acquaintance and received some info re this system:

The owner of MW noted that the 46 sites cover about 80,000 square miles in Missouri, Kansas, and Iowa. It goes from Junction City, Ks to Moberly, Mo, and Harrisonville, Mo to almost to Omaha, Nebraska.

Six of the sites belong to Commenco and forty are Midwest's responsibility.

Guess we should call the thread "Midwest Mobile System!"

It appears that Midwest may have named the system “MotoNet”.

If we can get a basic list of just the states and counties it has sites in then that can be submitted to the database so people in it’s covered areas can see it too. I’ll work on what we have so far here and also if everyone egress I’ll submit a name change to “MotoNet”

Do keep in mind that regardless of what you submit, only confirmed data can be added into the DB:

1. Site needs to be online (they probably all are)
2. Must have reasonable certainty of the site / county
3. Must know at least one of the active freqs (usually control channel)
4. Should know the Color Code for any frequency being added

Per the admin handbook, an admin won't just be able to add all the frequencies for every site in a way that allows all of the frequencies to be imported into the scanner, unless all of the frequencies have been verified active.

I agree, there are many sites that can be listed just based upon best-guess, but they will be pretty "crippled" if you try to import them into a scanner because they won't contain all of the frequencies and the LCN orders won't be known. That's what is a bummer with DMR/NXDN systems.

The exception to that is the BOTT-Olathe site that a poster posted previously, which has a slew of LCNs figured out.

I'm in the process of transferring my text file documentation to a Google Spreadsheet that I can then share with all of you, which lists much of the relevant site location info should anybody decide to reference it. Should be ready to share by end-of-biz today.

Probably should be MotoNet or MotoNet CP+ as Midwest calls it. I know Commenco calls it "Connect+", but they do not appear to be the primary operator so their naming should probably be disregarded. That of course is all up to you guys local to the area though.

Since this is a multistate system, somebody should also ask a moderator to:

a. move this thread to the Multi-State System forum (and you all will have to remember to view it there)
b. ask them to rename the title of this thread to something like:

MotoNet (or MotoNet CP+) System 153 KS/MO

Anybody currently interested in this thread should probbaly click on the Thread Tools and "Watch" this thread if they aren't already. that way, even if it moves to another forum or title of the thread changes, they should still have it on their watch list.

Ok, below is a link to my spreadsheet. Please remember I'm nowhere near KS/MO. You don't have to believe anything on the spreadsheet. If it's useful to you, awesome. If not, no harm-no foul.

Please also keep in mind that I have no idea whose licenses (if any) are involved in this system other than Commenco and Midwest Radio Service. The reason you see TFMCOMM and TBS Electronics is because, for a small number of the sites listed on the MWRS coverage map, I'm unaware of any trunked licenses around those areas belonging to Commenco / Midwest Radio Service but have found trunked licenses for TFMCOMM and/or TBS Electronics. I also did not check non-trunked licenses, and as many or all of you may know, some LMR operators are notorious for not keeping FCC licenses accurate / using frequencies licensed for a different area, or in some cases not having a license at all -- Just like some LMR operators are notorious for using Part 22 frequencies.

Some of you may also notice that for some of the locations, the licenses do not really match up to the Site Names. For example:

Atchison - the site I reference is actually 5 mi E of Atchison in Rushville, MO
Barclay - the site I reference is actually Osage City, KS
Warrensburg - the site I reference is Fayetteville, MO (tower site of KCMW-FM Warrensburg)

Chapel Hill -- I have no idea where this site is
- there is a Chapel Hill community around Overland Park area
- closest trunked license I could find was Commenco WPPC498, Spring HIll KS (Miami) - no DMR emissions on license

I am a DB admin for my area so I am familiar with the rules you're referencing and agree on that point. I was more speaking about changing the name of the system and getting only confirmed counties entered so that others within it's coverage area can see and submit to the system hopefully.

Doh, I'm sorry that I hadn't noticed that. Good deal.

Thank you. I see it now on a map, the "community" of Chapel Hill - extremely small.

I don't see any FCC licenses around the area that would make sense, and only 3 tower locations (at the co-op and two American Towers sites).

If you know that site 8 is Chapel Hill, do you happen to know any frequencies / licenses associated with the site?

Yes i have some more, ill put some more together for everyone,

Site 1 is in St joe and site 2 is in Cameron... both are to far away to get a good decode and find all the right frequencies. so if anyone lives up that way they would be good to figure out.

Thanks, Big. Although I don't personally have a dog in this fight since I'm in Ohio, I do appreciate any information you can provide. And I'm sure those within the coverage area would appreciate any info you've got on sites that are part of the MotoNet System 153.

Take care,

Mike

This is good info everyone. I’m glad I got this conversation going. One thing I keep seeing on systems like these is the use of unlicensed frequencies in the 454 MHz paging range. Seems to be popular with these companies to grab from them to fill in extra frequencies when needed.

These 454.xxx are not "UN-Licensed Frequencies" they are "EA" (Economic Area Freqs) frequencies and they do have a License, Check FCC records under the "CP" designation, you will find that they are legit, some companies lease these from the main license holder. They are also called Market Based Part 22 channels.
