Computer not recognizing radio audio input

Hi all. I'm new to radio recording and doing some work on it for a professor of mine. I'm using a Uniden BCD436HP Radio. I've downloaded ProScan and been able to get my radio connected to it such that the radio communicates with the program. However, the ultimate goal of this project is recording through ProScan. I have a standard 3.5 mm jack cable for the audio connection to my computer (HP Spectre running Windows 11). My problem is that the computer recognizes the radio as "headphones," not as an audio input, and therefore won't connect the audio side on ProScan. Has anyone dealt with this problem and found a solution? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you are connecting the scanner to the audio out (headphone connector) of the computer and not the audio in/mic connector. Does the Spectre have a mic in connector? Some laptops do not have an external mic connector or a have a combo connector that you have to go into the settings to control.

It has a single audio jack that should function as a dual purpose plug. I've been in settings multiple times but can't get it to recognize the radio as an input instead of an output.
