• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I am running CPS on my Win8 machine and was working fine...then when I attached my USB programming cable to another port it could not read, switched it back and got the same message...reloaded Windows and reinstalled CPS now I get "can not create unknown radio component"...I'm thinking it may be a driver issue...if that's the case does anyone know where I can obtain the driver for the HT750/1250 USB programming cable?...Any help is great at this point

The driver issue is well documented here in the forum and over on batlabs. If you want more detail, search on Prolific. BTW, this is not unique to the Professional Series portables.

The last driver I downloaded was from M online. That worked for a USB driver for APX programming.

Is that CPS even supported on Win8 or Win7?
Somewhere around R.06.12.06 for the Pro Series, they released a fix for the Win 7 problems. It works just fine now. Current version is R06.12.08.

This is the first I've heard of anyone having issues with Win 8.

Since you usually have to remove (uninstall) CPS to upgrade it, I would try unplugging the cable, then remove CPS, then reboot, then re install CPS..

NOTE: I have not touched Win 8, so proceed on at your own risk.

Even without the CPS running my device manager is saying it can't load the device so I don't think its an issue with the CPS as much as the driver and as I stated earlier I no longer have access to M online to see if one is available

Okey, try this, first off go to this site and download the current version of the PL2303 driver.

Products

Now, plug your cable into your port, then go to device manager, select the port, do a right click and say update driver.

It will ask you to go to internet, say no, then select from a certain location, go to where even you put the driver, then select update.

This should do a proper update and you will now be able to plug the cable into any port and it will work correctly.

I have done this an about 50 computers in the last 3 months and have had no problems.

However, I only had 4 Win 8 with 7 Win 7 and the rest XP/SP3 pro.

Good luck

I have read this thread a number of times and still am not sure just what your doing. So let me ask a few questions.

1. The normal cable to program the HT750 is a serial cable that normally goes through a RIB. Then the other side of the RIB goes to a serial port on the computer. Are you saying you have a serial port adapter to run off of a USB connection?

2. If your trying to use a USB adapter, is a full function one or is it one of the cheap variety?

3. If you are using a full function USB to serial adapter, have you made sure you know what serial port got assigned to it? You can find that out with the computer device manager. it will need to be in the range of com1 through com4. That way you can then go into the Motorola software and set the com port the computer assigned it.

4. If it set the com port to something higher, you will need to re assign it in the computer to a lower number.

Good luck on resolving your problem. Don't buy cheap USB to serial converters.

Ribless USB Cable-Full Function
Set to COM3
CPS Doesn't allow me the option to change the COM port

How do I change the COM port assignment within the CPS software?

There is no COM port to change if you are using the USB programming cable. Do NOT confuse this with a USB to serial adapter. Two different animals. There is a COM port to be assigned with the USB to serial adapter, but not with the USB cable.

You were asked a question above and did not answer it.

Are you SURE that CPS is PROPERLY supported in Windows 8?

Check the README file.

What EXACT version of CPS are you using?
