Out here in Argyle area (Denton County), I no longer hear any activity on the "new" trunked system.

range or whatever issues, not sure.

Use the System Status tool in the Analyze menu. Try it with both Dallas Layer 1 & Dallas Layer 2. If you aren't getting a signal, then you may be out of range. It's also possible that they may have tweaked the antenna pattern to focus more on Dallas County.

Are you still hearing the Denton system, and.or any of the other sites on NTIRN, or one of the trunked systems in Collin County? Like Frisco & PAWMCo?

Monitoring NTIRN (Dallas Layer 1) this morning in Keller and good copy on DPD, DFR and DSO using a inside antenna (850 Mhz cut "Clover Leaf" Antenna)...RSSI running around -97 on average......on Dallas Layer 2 the receive is not very good most times with inside antenna...

To add to waht @nd5y says, not all public safety traffic is carried on both Dallas Layer 1 and 2. ALL public safety is on Layer 1 but only a few public safety channels are carried on Layer 2. It looks like city services has primary access to Layer 2 and Public Safety has primary access to layer 1.

Tonight the dispatch channel, 460.575, and station radio on NTIRN have been having issues. The channels have gone down for a few hours in the past. This time it will play some calls but not all. I've heard runs for 52s, 30s, and 23s only in the 5 hour period I've been listening. Just wondering if y'all know anything about this. I've never heard it act like this before

Hello All,
I'm hoping to get some clarification on Dallas Layers 1 & 2. From what I have seen in the database and read in the forum and wiki, it seems like primarily the CITY of Dallas public safety is on Layer 1, CITY of Dallas public works & services on Layer 2, and all COUNTY of Dallas (including Sheriff, Constable, and Fire) is on Layer 2 as well?

Dallas Layer 1 is the primary site used for public safety agencies, whether Dallas (city) or Dallas County, as well as the smaller cities on NTIRN (Cedar Hill, Desoto, Duncanville, & Lancaster).

Layer 2 is used for city agencies & departments other than public safety. However, I am still logging a number of police or fire TGIDs at least occasionally on Layer 2.

Hutchins & Wilmer are the only cities in Dallas County not using any of the trunked systems at this time. Public safety agencies (PD, Fire & EMS) for all the other cities in Dallas County are on one of the local trunked systems.

Thank you @hiegtx for the info. I appreciate it.

I didn't see anything mentioned about the move in any of these notes or did I miss something ?
I went through their city council meeting minutes up to the most recent one posted, and did not see anything related to a ‘start date’ (changeover) listed.

I still have a couple of scanners running ID Search on NTIRN, logging activity via ProScan. When & if I see a new set of TGIDs come online, I’ll set them to record and review to identify the user.

As I understand it, Public Safety(DPD & DFR) radios use Layer 1 primarily, but will use Layer 2 when/where needed. I imagine that there enough radios in locations where Layer 2 is better than Layer 1, so it ends up being that they are on both layers 1 & 2 almost all of the time. For me, in NE Tarrant County, I receive Layer 2 much better than Layer 1.

Ben, I'm seeing the same pattern. DFR & DPD show in my logs as mostly using Layer 1. But there are still occasions where, instead, their TGIDs show as using Layer 2. I suspect that you are correct, that in some areas, there might be a better signal on Layer 2 than what Layer 1 can provide. Since Layer 1 is using the state license, we can't independently check site locations via the FCC licensing. Layer 2 might be somewhat better off since most of it's site frequencies were part of the old analog Dallas City Government Moto Type II. There might be more Layer 2 subsites than the number actually in use for Layer 1.
