I got all my stuff from Scanner Master. The only bad thing about pointing to the East Lake tower is that if you scan VIPER, you'll miss a lot of traffic if you are scanning that system since it's a multicast system. You will probably do better by using the BI or KH towers, though you may have to offset your antenna +10-15 degrees (it takes trial and error). Here is a good primer for simulcast systems:

http://forums.radioreference.com/sc...ated-guide-yagi-solving-simulcast-issues.html

I need to go up and readjust my antenna to get a better signal from KH since most EMS reports hit that tower for some reason.

Finally back down to try my Pro-106 with firmware and DSP fully upgraded, and I have to say, the Dare P25 system sounds AMAZING now. The simulcast multi-path issues are mostly gone, copying all transmissions very clear. Only iffy spot was about half-way between Salvo and Avon. Otherwise, happily scanning again. Also seems as if they've addressed the low voice volume issue on the paging channel. Capturing lots of unidentified encrypted talkgroups not in the DB.

ALSO, using Pro96 to monitor the system, I noticed that the control channel was indicating an "adjacent site" which I entered and monitored as well. It appears to mirror the system shown in the database, has six frequencies, and carries most of the same affiliations and channel grants as the primary system. It is licensed for the same transmit locations as the primary system as well, but the signal is poor in Rodanthe. Here is the CCDump data...

Carries same SYSid "3B1" but is site 102

That alternate system might be the mirrored multicast system for the Buxton area. Since the multipath interference was so bad down there, they actually built a second system just to mirror the current P25 system. Regardless, the system sounds excellent now as you describe.

Also you are right about the missing talkgroups on the database. All law enforcement TAC, CID, talk, and Admin talkgroups are encrypted and not listed in the database. Only dispatch and ops are unencrypted. If you listen, you will hear officers tell other officers to "switch over", which means switch to one of those encrypted groups. Fortunately, you still hear almost everything over dispatch regardless.

That's because now Buxton is its own trunking site now, instead of simulcast. You are most likely picking up the Stumpy Point site from across the water, also.

Great info, thanks. Does the simulcast site still operate in Buxton, too? Or do I need to set that new system up in the scanner for our southerly travels?

It might be pertinent to list the encrypted stuff in the DB even if it's just as "Unidentified encryption" that way people can program in and lock out so scanners don't get hung up on it.

I've sent the master list to RR, but AFAIK, they don't list encrypted talkgroups in the database. And good info KX4KDH, I still thought the simulcast site was in operation there alongside the new site.

Done and done, if anyone would like to email me their Pro96Com logs I would appreciate it, I can fill in some missing gaps in the database. If anyone has the encrypted talkgroups IDed I can put those in there as well. Not that we'll be able to hear anything, but it'll make the listing a little more complete and we'll know what to avoid.

Thanks again for all the updates.

email is my username (at) radioreference (dot) com for those of you who want to send any data files.

Spent the past week in the Nags Head area. I had a lot of trouble receiving this system from location in the Villages. I mostly listened to the Bodie Island Site on Viper which came in perfect and I also listened to the online feed (Thanks!).

One day I went down to Hatteras Lighthouse and the Buxton Site is perfect down that way!

There were a couple Encryption talkgroups that marked up when I could get a signal.

There's a new talkgroup I've heard mentioned a few times called "DC Scene 1". Duck FD has used it a handful a times and now it's being used for traffic control at a fire call in Manteo. I cannot pick this talkgroup up on my scanner (as I have a directional antenna in Wanchese facing the Nags Head tower towards the ocean). I believe this is a simplex talkgroup that only goes between the radios and bypasses the P25 system. I figured Duck was using it as coverage on mobiles at the north end of their town is very spotty still. Anyone else know anything about this talkgroup?

Lot's o' choices of what it could be.
There are several simplex 700Mhz frequencies that it could be or it could be (of course) 8Call/8TAC frequencies.
Heck it could be a conventional frequency set aside for a VRS/DVRS.
Only way to know for sure is to stumble across a radio and do a close-call/signal stalker type of deal or to have someone gracious enough to pass along a radio codeplug.
