My radio went down on Saturday after I did a update and I am getting ad card error. I went out after reading other posts about this problem and bought a new card. Formatted and tried to use in the radio, with no luck. I have read so many posts about this happening. What kind of a turn around time is it at Uniden, this is not under warranty. The radio is two years old and this is the first time I have had any problems with any of the six radios I have had over the years.

No need to send it to Uniden.

You will need to use the "clear user data" function in the Sentinel menu to put the necessary files onto the new card before the scanner will boot up. Check the "display all drives" box in the clear user data function, chose the SD card, and finish the process. Then write to the scanner from Sentinel to upload your favorites lists etc.

Very troubling that a new card did not cure the problem. I've read about card errors caused by power being interrupted, but obviously something more sinister is at work in your case. I have a 536 that I purchased about 2 months ago. So far, so good, but I've been spoiled by having no problems with any of the RS or Uniden scanners that I've purchased over the past 25+ years. I hope the 536 doesn't break that streak.

Good luck with your radio and I hope Uniden turns it around fast. Please update us with the results.

A new SD card, even after formatting, will not work in the scanner until the "clear user data" process is performed. Just takes a minute or 2 to be back in business. New cards are already formatted, but the files that the scanner needs to boot from are written to the card during the clear user data process.

At what point in those steps are you having a problem? Are you able to connect to the computer in mass storage mode?

Do you see the SD card show up when you check the "display all drives" box in the "clear user data" process?

Are you saying that you're giving up?

I am ready to send it in. The door for the sd card is not to sturdy and I don't want to make another problem. I am at the end of my rope. Thank you for the suggestions.

I will note that at no time was it mentioned what format was used when formatting the card. That's likely where the issue was, but you can't help someone who refuses to be helped.

This exact process has been detailed many times on this forum.

Exactly. Most newer PC's will not format in FAT32. FAT32 is the format needed for the scanner. Best way to format the cards is with SDcard formatter, from sdcard.org.

Strange that the SDcard formatter program formats the card with FAT, not FAT32, and it works fine in the scanners.

I formatted both the new and the old sd card to FAT32 with no luck. I boxed the radio up and UPS'ed to Uniden. I have had enough, I could not get it to the mass storage screen. Nothing seemed to work. When I put the ad card in my computer I could see the files but it would not let me remove them from the card. It looks like all of the files are on the card.

Can you read the card in a card reader?

Sending it in will not help if all you need to do is properly prepare the SD card and writing the appropriate files to the card so that the radio can boot.

Uniden might send it right back saying there is nothing wrong.
