I have recording turned off and replay duration set to 0. I don't think there is any writing going on for that function. When I push "Replay" on my 536HP the screen displays that replay is off.

You are still writing via the replay function - you can't turn it off.

You DO have to manually start recoding.

That said - still on my orginal card in 3 HP1/2 - one is as old as possible , it was the first sold by that particular dealer. Hp2 was one of the first '2's as well.

The design is definitely lousy on the 436.

For the 536 (and HP1/HP2) they used what I would call the spring loaded "click in" industry standard that you see in all kinds of devices that use SD cards.

Wonder why the went with that crazy design on the 436?

A few years back, I had the long term loan of PSR800. I found the SD card in that to be a PITA as it tended to pop out more or less at random. If nothing else, that never happens with the 436HP.

 I had this happen once - when I first got the radio and didn't know the card slot was spring loaded (as it should be). But popping out at random??? How is that even possible?

You are still writing via the replay function - you can't turn it off.

I'm pretty sure you can now disable replay recording on the x36 radios (there is an "Off" setting) - it was added to a firmware version quite some time ago.

I've messed around with the SD card a few times on my 436. I haven't broken anything. I guess I'm doing it wrong.

$500 bucks is hardly alot of money
That statement is highly subjective. For instance, for $500, I can fly for just under five hours in a Cessna 172. $500 is a lot of money to me.

Lets not be so quick to judge.
I've had many electronic devices that use microSD cards and never did I need to use youtube to show me how to insert or remove an microSD card until I purchased the 436HP. The absolute worst design!

I think a company failed to educate themselves at many levels during the development stages of the 436HP.
The Micro SD card slot on my $70 Asus Tablet is far superior to that on my 436HP.

I've only had the card out of the 436hp once, to send it back for the RTC clock repair. It took me 15 mins of filthy swearing to get it fully locked back in place inside. I could not do it with the clip holder in place at all, and I could not get the SD card to seat properly. It almost got sold that day. Whose idea was this anyway?

If one removes the cards enough times - something bad will happen, even with the push in sockets springs will break, plastic on cards will break, contacts will break. These sockets are not designed for repeated removal.

Does not apply. I removed it ONCE.

Dude (or right honorable dude?), things break. I've seen a light bulb blow as soon as it was installed. Does that mean all light bulbs are flawed and you deserve your money back? No.

I've had the metal cover off the 436 SD card slot come off once, when I changed from the stock SD card to a larger, more reliable one. I put it back on and went on with my day.

Yes, it's a poor design. But it's what we're stuck with. Get over it.
