Hi all,

Does anybody have a current list of Denver Fire equipment by station?
If not an entire list, where are the Rescue and Hammer rigs currently housed?

Thanks

Hamer stands for HAzardous Materials Emergency Response. Hamer is not a NIMS apparatus term though, so most departments have gone to saying Haz-Mat.

Jeffrey you're right, DFD Dive 1 is now an ex-CSP command unit that's baby blue in color. It looks great when Station 1 has their white engine, reserve red truck and the blue dive truck.

Where does the name "Hammer" come from. Does it stand for something??

Well originally it was a tool Made from bones used by cavemen, some say it was the first domestic dispute ender device.

Also used in slang as in I will be getting"" Hammered ""tonight at a new year’s party!

More recently MC Hammer used it (before your time) but after his house blew up (back in the early 90"s) He found Jesus!!!!

....................But that’s not what you meant is it?!?!?!?

PS Have hope my friends I’m going back to work the 2nd and will not have as much time to ponder such edacities

Happy new kwanza-year thinga mibob

By the way I can not think of anyone whom might be offended by new years can you ?

Each firehouse has an engine (excepting 4s and 2s with only aerials or towers.
The stations are numbered 1-31 with a gap for station 18. It is going to Lowry in the next five years.
Specialty rigs are Collapse manned by Truck 1 and at station 1
Dive rig which is a surplus command rig bought from the state patrol and at station 1 manned by Engine 1. (Denver's only blue fire truck since it stayed the same color state patrol ordered it in)
Station 8 has the Air/Light rig manned by a light duty firefighter when available. It has a cascade on it. It also has a stock of oxygen bottles as well. Training, station 5 and the Rescue also have cascades for filling air bottles.
Already mentioned is Rescue 1 running out of station 11 and HAMER out of station 6. Hamer 4 the dump truck is also there loaded with sand. Hamer was the creation of Butch Buller who is now retired. It was the first hazmat unit in the state and predates NIMS by 20 years. Traditions die slowly so it may never be renamed.
Decon is out of Station 9 manned by both rigs when needed. Squirt 10 when it is in service also responds as the big shower unit. 10s also has the NBC (old pre-NIMS name, it is something else now) rig.
Other stations have specialties, 27s makes all the helmets, 26s has a stockpile of AFFF. Stockpile of backboards are out at the repairshop,

Thanks to all for the replies.
Wasn't there a short-lived 18 at Lowry just after the Air Force left? Any ideas where the new 18 will go (which seems like a good idea the way they're building)?
I happened to know the owner of the 1924 American LaFrance rig that was in the original 18 on Colo Blvd, I'm proud to say.

Thanks

Yes, good memory, station 18 was in the old main Lowry firehouse. It is now Colorado Free University's building next to Montclair academy. The Air Force paid the freight on it when they disbanded their department. Later, Lowry redevelopment paid for it for a short while but cut back funding closing the station. There was also a Station 5 in Governors Ranch off of Wadsworth and Belleview that housed s minipumper in a residential home. Station 30 in Greenvalley was also in a single family home. It had a ten foot garage door that would accommodate a pumper.
Good to hear. There are a lot of old Denver rigs around. Lakeside used to have a bunch of them. There are several in Sheridan off of old Hampden and Federal.
One of the mechanics bought an aerial ladder at the last auction for next to nothing, not sure what he is going to do with it.

Storage seems to be what it comes down to when owning one of these monsters. The person I spoke of had a taller custom built garage with a thicker foundation for housing his. You didn't really notice how tall the garage door was until you knew to compare it the rest on the block.
