In Rowan County the NC Air National Guard FD station at the Rowan County Airport will no longer be dispatched on Rowan County Fire Dispatch. The changes are as follows :

Old Station #: Station 90
New Station #: Station 9

Old Dispatch TG: RFD DISP - County Fire (Rowan/Salisbury TRS) VHF - 154.2500
New Dispatch TG: FD DISP - City Fire Dispatch (Rowan Salisbury TRS only)

The change was cited as a way to simplify communications between the city & airport units. That was the only reason given. Biggest thing I can think is that the city runs everything at the airport anyway, and will save the NCANG personnel from having to mess with the radios much.

Any other Rowan folks (Shannon) have any input on this?

No, I don't have an opinion on this topic. :)

I don't see how this will help anything. The city has so far never had any trouble switching to county fire so why is this such a big deal? Half the airport is still in the county anyway.

I don't understand how they plan to page out the Army Guard station now unless they alert the handheld radio that the chief uses. They need to just leave well enough alone.

I can't believe you don't have an opinion on this

We'll have to wait & see how this works.

Well we saw just how it works today with the fire alarm activation at the airport. As of today, at least, they are still dispatching the Army Guard Station (Station 9) on County Fire, and then communicating with them on City Fire. I still don't see why this was such a big deal...

I missed this. I'm thinking maybe I could reinvent the wheel as well and make myself a small fortune, lol.

You know, the more I think about this the more I have come to the conclusion that they may be in a state of limbo. They may have already switched the station number and unit numbers in the CAD, but are waiting for the trunked tone decoder for the station. Right now it may be that since they don't have a way to be alerted installed in the station, they are still relying on VHF paging.

If that is the case, why not wait on the trunked tone decoder before switching over everything? It's kind of like getting the cart before the horse. If these people ever tried to reinvent the wheel, both myself and Daniel would have a better chance at reinventing oxygen.

Dang it, now everyone knows what our next business venture was gonna be, LOL. Guess we'll have to work on thunder & lightning, or something like that........

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, you didn't go there, LOL !!! Now we're takin it to a whole new level

Yes! I dream of living large!

In all seriousness though, I don't see why they did that out of order. The airport is still half in the county and any call that they have regardless of it's nature still has a county department's response.

The Fire Marshall's Office Unit 802 is there and they are dispatched over RFD. All the City has to do is switch over to the county frequency after they respond. It's no different than what they are already doing when they run mutual aid with a county department. The whole thing doesn't make any sense.

I guess I'm just asking for an rational explanation; one that we'll probably never get.
