I put my call out on many talkgroup, nobody responds. I know my set is working by testing on the patriot. Ready to sell it.
I didn't see your response as to what network you are using. And I don't know what "the patriot" is. Regardless, assuming you are on BrandMeister, since you are in Chester County, listen to 31360 aka TriState. This talkgroup is probably the most active one in ePA and sNJ. The activity level varies during the day, but if you monitor the PiStar Dashboard you will see 10-30 calls most weekdays. You will quickly recognize the regulars.

There is significantly less activity during the evening hours. Weekends are pot luck.

You can also listen to 31360 on BrandMeister Hoseline.

Personally I find a hotspot is better for me (location issues), but 31360 is on a repeater system. See ** WR3IRS - Interstate Repeater System ** for info.

A reasonably complete list of DMR nets is on Telegram:

And one one of the largest nets is on:

Hi Tom, I think he meant "parrot". His spell check thought he meant patriot and goofed it up. Hope you are doing well!

Heh, never thought about "parrot." I'll blame it on the Canadian forest fire smoke, the air quality index of 160, or the 70° dewpoint and 86° air temperature. Thanks Barry.

See if you can find a public CallWatch page for any systems close to you. Here is an example of one. http://chicagoland.dyndns.org:42420/CallWatch

DMR isn't dead, but it is highly dispersed and not all repeaters carry all the traffic. I'm a repeater owner and selective on what talk-groups are active 100% and what ones require a local PTT to route the traffic.

Maybe your trying at the wrong times. Most likely activity in evenings and weekends.

We have a really robust DMR system of repeaters in Maryland, Southern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Washington DC.

Almost everywhere I go can access a repeater on the HT.

Sometimes I don't get a response on the repeater, but that not keeping me from using DMR. I have a lot of DMR HTs, plus a Connect Systems Mobile in the car.

I i only use the local or Statewide talkgroups.
Really any idea how northern WV is

I wanna try dmr but idk tho we have 15-20 repeaters whole state
I would suggest you use a hotspot to open up the DMR world beyond your state's repeaters. A repeater has its limits as to the number of talkgroups it can handle. If you want to go mobile add a VZW JetPack or whatever is your carrier's equivalent.

Everyone is switching to M17 nowadays. The mode itself even has its Wikipedia article in 9 languages.

While I am watching M17 with great interest, this statement is just silly.

Leaving the lack of infrastructure behind, how many DMR subscribers are there vs M17? The CS radios will be the first native handheld, and you can plug an aftermarket board into a few Icoms.

Using a HotSpot to transcode to M17 from another mode doesnt count.

I wish you guys well, but I feel like this is going to become just another niche mode ala EJ-47U or AOR DV and there is absolutly nothing wrong with that. Experimentation is the crux of the hobby but any new mode has a VERY hard time becoming mainstream without major vendors incorporating the technology into their lines for the masses to easily get.

DMR is number one only because there's a metric ton of radios available on the market. The situation will change dramatically as soon as there's at least one supporting M17 natively, as other MFGs will sense $$$, join the game and set the price threshold lower and lower. Then, as M17 is much easier to work with than DMR and the voice quality is comparable, it's going to naturally replace the latter as the time passes. It's that simple. The people behind the modes you mentioned didn't have enough determination to reach their goals. Not to mention that they were not ham radio related groups and monetary profit was their sole incentive.

how many DMR subscribers are there vs M17?
Our user base is estimated at 1/20th of that of DMR. We can't have anything else than an estimation, as there is no centralized user database. BTW - LilyGo sold about 500 Module17 units so far.

this statement is just silly
I talk with OMs all around the world as I attend major ham fairs worldwide and this is what I see and experience. I recommend you trying to get a bigger picture by discussing this with people outside your country.

I remember back years ago when ham DMR was taking off I bought some motorola XPRs and programmed them up. The biggest thing then was programming. People would go to program them, open the software and give up. It was frequent requests for codeplugs pre-programmed. I had fun learning DMR and did all my own programming. Once more user friendly DMR radios came out and hotspots everything seemed to move that way vs conventionally over the linked systems repeaters. With a hotspot you didn't need to figure out or program a bunch of color codes, timeslots, frequencies, talkgroups and roaming and whatnot for those repeaters or worry if someone was on the other timeslot

I won't switching unless M17 can generate enough traffic of it's own to make it worthwhile. P25 and NXDN talkgroups are primarily linked into reflectors just to generate enough traffic to make it worthwhile to own a P25 or NXDN Radio. There's nothing wrong with that. My point is I don't need a NXDN or a P25 radio because I can talk to those users through a reflector, by using DMR or YSF, with the radio I already have. If all M17 is going to do is also link to reflectors then there's no sense in me going that route.
