Hello,

The tool downloads the current firmware from the Whistler site, which is V4.6 for the WS-1080.

If you need V4.5 then you need to find it elsewhere.

Going back to the stock PSR-800 firmware can be done via the tool by changing the firmware type back to PSR-800 and downloading the PSR-800 firmware. I think the current PSR-800 version is 2.0. You can also use the PSR-800 EZ-Scan, or PSR-800 stand-alone firmware installers.

In addition to the firmware update, I also saw they updated EZ Scan as well. Will updating to the new EZ Scan cause any issues with still using the 4.5 firmware? It appears it did more function and cleanup with the program and doesn't seem like it would cause any conflicts, however, I know scanners and software can be kinda temperamental at times. Lol

What is the change from 4.5 to 4.6 ?
Anyone have the list ?

go in the grefwtool and select download ...it will then show you the change logs for ALL versions of the firmware. Then delete that download as it won't install.

Don't be so hasty to delete the .bin file. Before the fix to allow .bin files up to 4.5 I had inadvertently downloaded 4.4. I wasn't quick enough to get version 4.5 when 4.6 rolled out. So I'm currently stuck at 4.4. But you never know...keep 4.6 around just in case a workaround is found.

Work around was found see the radio shack thread.

If anyone need firmware 4.5 and 4.6 also the relase note
Download WS1080 firmware zip
Hello,

The Version 4.6 file you provided is the new obfuscation, so it will not work with GREFwTool.

The Pro-688 thread is the most active discussion about the ongoing changes.

Instructions with clarification in this post.

Thanks to Eric Cottrell and all who are contributing to this thread.
I upgraded using the GREF tool when it was introduced a few weeks ago and turned my PSR-800 into a W1080 with ver 3.8. Everything worked well and I was hearing the DMR trunk with Inaugural chatter here in DC.
I have been away fron the group for a while and was happy to see that there was a 4.6 fixed to work with the tool, so I downloaded everything, per Eric's message.
The first time I tried to upgrade it failed. I needed to tell the tool my radio was a PSR again and then it worked, but I lost my County fire/ems/pd system. I thought it was the upgrade, but after tinkering, I discovered the system was messed up and after I reloaded from the RRDB library, everything is working great again.

Is anyone trying to figure out if we can add NXDN too?

Word about that is the code space is not large enough to accommodate NXDN.

Hello,

There are differences with code location and size the precludes using the TRX-1 firmware on older scanners. There maybe technical ways to overcome them, but it is not worth the effort and time required. As I have stated, this is a fun experiment. Let us not be greedy.

Personally I am glad that there are limitations in place. I can imagine the greater backlash if it could easily be done. Such a modification removes a major product advantage of buying a TRX-1/2 and could greatly affect sales. I am already likely persona non grata in Whistler's universe, and I do not blame them. They want to protect their product and sales. I bought a TRX-2 for NXDN and a mobile project.

I started this as a project to understand how the GRE PSR-800 worked. I did not expect to find that similar hardware platforms were used across models.

I may go to Dayton next year (2018). I am wondering if I should visit the Whistler booth and say hello to Wendy.
