Set "Display Mode" to "Advanced" in the "General Settings" tab and "Line 3" to "TGID and Alpha Tag" in the "Advanced Features" tab.

That seems to work for trunked DMR, but it's not showing talk group for a ham DMR repeater. Color Code and Slot yes (bottom line) but no talk group info.

Correct me if I'm wrong...I think the transmitting radios need to be programed to send out the TGID and the radio ID.

4.5 is the latest the tool will download and I am currently testing it.

Yep, I think 4.8 may have been a typo. I've checked several Whistler models and 4.5 was also the highest CPU version I found.

Any luck with 4.5?

It would be nice to have some of the fixes or new features that became available after 3.8 as long as 4.5 does not kill all digital reception like any versions above 3.8 did.

I did upgrade the PC App to the newest version for the WS1080 and did a transfer from and to that radio and all still works as it did before but of course none of the features that require a newer CPU version work.

I do like the new Function + number key options and especially the new backlight option which all work fine on a TRX-2.

Hopefully your test will prove successful and digital modes are restored with this latest CPU version for those with upgraded models stuck at CPU 3.8!

Hello,

If the firmware works on the WS-1080, then I would not expect Whistler to fix any problems using the firmware on unsupported hardware. That is one limitation of doing this experiment.

The tool will download the latest version, but it most likely not work in anything other than a WS-1080/WS-1088.

Is there a directory or a site where CPU versions 3.3 to 3.8 can be downloaded?
or can someone please email it to me?

I just got my radio back from being repaired and would like to apply the update to WS1080

Thanks

I'm not sure why you would want/need CPU firmware versions 3.3 to 3.7 for the WS1080 as version 3.8 is the latest/newest version that works properly in the PRO-18, PRO-668 and PSR-800. Going backwards to an earlier version may introduce earlier problems/issues that were resolved in version 3.8.

In your posting you state that you just got your radio back from repair and you "would like to apply the update to WS1080" but you don't state what radio you have. If you have a genuine Whistler WS1080 (unclear from your posting) you can simply go into your Whistler EZ Scan PC application program and update your radio to the latest CPU firmware version 4.5 and DSP firmware version 3.0.

I just have one quick question.

Can you have the Whistler EZ scan software program installed on the same PC as the PSR800 EZ scan software?

Will they interfere with each other, or will they play nice together?

They play nice and don't interfere with each other.

Greetings. I have a PSR-800 and have both EZScan from GRECOM and Whistler 1080 software installed here. I can update my PSR-800 fine with GRECOM software (1st image below) but the Whistler software fails (2nd image below).
I was trying to update DSP to 3.0 before I use GREFwTool to upgrade the firmware to 3.8
Any ideas? Am I doing something wrong with the Whistler EZ-Scan software? Or am I supposed to first get the firmware (3.8) loaded into the PSR-800 with GREfwTool and then attempt the DSP upgrade with Whistler EZ-Scan? (I don't have 3.8 and would appreciate if someone sent me the file please).

Sorry I came in late. Reading through the thread it seems I'm in right path "Firmware 3.8 and DSP 3.0 are needed for PSR-800 to decode DMR"

Yes, you need to load the 3.8 first. Check your pm. I sent you a link.

I get "Wrong Firmware for Scanner".
Scanner is in firmware upgrade mode and the GREfwTool is connected. It sees the file WS1080e_U3.8.bin - I select it and get the error above. Not sure what could be wrong.

Log:
Connected to COM3
Scanner is CPU update mode
Version Boot 1.0 CPU 2.0
Wrong firmware file for scanner

EDIT: Disregard it. I forgot to go into Setup on GREFwTool and change the firmware type to WS1080. It is loading 3.8 into PSR800 now.

When you open the GREFwTool click on the box to connect scanner, then click on the wrench symbol which is the configure application. Make sure the scanner type is psr-800 and firmware is ws-1080.Set your serial port them hit apply. Then hit the update firmware button and find the 3.8 bin and apply.
