Is there a particular reason that you want to use the WS1080 CPU firmware version 3.8 in your GRE PSR-800 instead of using the latest/newest WS1080 CPU firmware version 4.5? Does the older CPU firmware perform better in your monitoring area?
Can we flash latest WS1080 firmware to PSR-800 ?
I read that only modified 3.8 firmware that can be flashed to PSR-800.

Is the charging proses still work if we upgrade the PSR-800 to WS1080 firmware v4.5 ?

RR member EricCottrell posted the following in post #27 in this thread: "Remember to turn off the battery charging in the configuration. The unit will still be powered by the USB when plugged in, but it will not charge the battery."

Direct link to his post #27: http://forums.radioreference.com/gre-scanners/342880-dmr-hopes-psr-800-a-2.html#post2684317

Eric also posted the following in post #34 in this thread: "I also turn off battery charging in the configuration as I find it a bit wonky on the PSR-800 and charge batteries faster by using a charger anyway."

RR member kruser also had a very detailed post #133 in this thread regarding charging batteries in a PSR-800 after the WS1080 upgrade/conversion: http://forums.radioreference.com/gre-scanners/342880-dmr-hopes-psr-800-a-7.html#post2698940

So I've download the latest version of EC's firmware updater, 0.2.0.3, and I can successfully connect with my PSR-800. The firmware version that is downloaded is: 0602902e_U2.0.bin. GREFWTool will perform the update function on the PSR-800, (the updater reports the operation complete) but hasn't seemed to change the operation of the radio. I've performed the update twice.

Firmware update mode shows:

uP Boot Ver: F1.0
uP App1 Ver:U2.0

after the firmware is applied. Is this correct?

Whislter EZScan doesn't find the radio on the serial port using either the Whistler driver or the Grecom driver, so I cannot update the DSP or the CPU. I've read through the prior posts, but I cannot identify what I'm doing wrong. Help!

If the scanner doesn't say whistler on the screen when it boots up then the ws1080 firmware is not installed.

The firmware version should be ver 4.5.

You missed some steps in the tool go back and read the directions.

The scanner is a psr-800 and the firmware is ws1080, Then you need to download the firmware via the tool. then you can use connect to scanner, then install firmware once installed. install the ws1080 driver, then install the ws1080 ezscan software and update the dsp firmware to ver. 3.0...all of this is in the instructions.

Nope, still says Grecom.

Am I supposed to source the correct firmware from someplace else? Can anyone PM me with where to find the proper .bin file?

No, the latest version of the tool will "source it" when you select download firmware.

What does the radio say when powering it on? If it doesn't say Whistler, then the update didn't take. Initially, you use the PSR-800 driver and use that to connect to GREfwTool. In the setup, make sure you select PSR-800 as YOUR radio, and select the WS-1080 as the firmware. The new tool can download the latest firmware from Whistler. Once you tell it to update the firmware, it SHOULD be flashed to the 4.5. The radio will say Whistler upon powering on. Install the WS-1080 driver AFTER the firmware tool is used, and use the latest version of Whistler's EZScan to do DSP update.

Hope this helps.
