Frank was a Field Training unit in the past. Experienced trooper with a rookie.

Several posts on page 1 list the prefixes and suffixes.

Anyone know what Mary Edward 1 is? heard it today on District 1 repeater reporting a semi on fire on I-40 just passed the Kingman exit. My frist guess is Medical examiner, but I didn't think DPS had Medical examiners.

Tucson nightwatch

for clarification, district 17 is now Tucson Nightwatch...and D17 unit ending in Mary is a motor. There is talk about distrct 7 (metro night watch) changing district numbers again and the metro motors may go back to being district 7. Not sure why or when or if this is true or not (and I work for them).... nobody tells us anything.

This is an awesome thread. Someone should assemble one comprehensive document, and then open that up to review by the community for correction as needed. Too bad RR doesn't have a place for codes / designations per jurisdiction.

John, how did you learn all of what you know about DPS call signs?

If you want to put together background stuff like callsigns, brevity codes for the agencies that still use them, maps, fire station locations and apparatus lists, etc., that's what the wiki is for. You can set one up for each agency.

The Southwest Frequency Directory had lots of information like the above. It hasn't been published since 2009, though. Probably mostly because of RR.

Mary Edward 1 must be something local. Have heard this callsign on the PD repeater and Sheriff repeater now, so probably has nothing to do with DPS.

Today I saw Air262F... He was a plain clothes guy in a marked unit, spending time with an FTO before transitioning to Air Unit duty...( I asked)

Saw them go 10-15 with an idiot who kept yelling stuff from the BACK seat... Mesa PD picked up his bicycle. LOL

I've added a table to the DPS page. Feel free to update/move/edit as required.

DPS call signs for helicopter and current assingments

All
As long as we are discussing this, I have herd the "Ranger" call for the Helos but they were using "Western air rescue" or some such name.

Also last info I had was helos in Flagg, Phoenix, Tuscon, and Kingman, any changes? Rumor of a Yuma Helo being assigned.

Whenever I hear the AZ DPS Helo land at KRMC in Kingman which is where they are stationed, they uslly say either "Ranger 56 Back in quarters at Western Air Rescue" or "Ranger 56 Landing at Western Air Rescue". I always assumed Western Air Rescue was the name of the DPS helo base here in Kingman.

EDIT: I found a DPS document online that says what it is. Western Air Rescue is Kingman, Northern Air Rescue is Flagstaff, Central is Phoenix, and Southern is Tuscon.

The map is hard for me to read on the DPS website, so I can't tell if it was updated, but there were some changes made in the last year or so to District 12. They are now covering further south to Carefree Highway/AZ 74, and the northeast boundary was pulled slight north into southern Coconino County, north of Stoneman Lake Road.

Who are the 1900 units here in the valley? Did 700 (metro night watch) switch callsigns finally?

Cool, figured as much. I'll update the wiki in a day or two. Thanks!
