I'm getting 2 different signals on 854.5125 & 854.6125 that both sound like some sorta control channel, but nothing like I've ever heard. They sound like a weak, snowy control channel, but they're strong signals. DSD+ doesn't decode anything. Anyone know what these are?

Duke is going P25. On page 6 of the below thread there is a document about "slow growth" --- the WRJI625 call is included on that document.

please see this thread

It looks like I'll need to add these on my travel list when I go east again. I forgot to add them a few months back. Wondering if they will go to P25 Phase ll?

But the strange thing is the sound of what's on the frequencies. It doesn't sound the same as any kind of control channel I've ever heard, if it even is a control channel. So I wonder if it's some weird new kind of system.

It is probably a test signal with two purposes. Mapping/drive testing for talk-out coverage which is likely a requirement of the overall system acceptance. The test signals can also be proof that the sites are built out and the licensed frequencies are being used so Duke can justify licensing more frequencies as they expand the new system. Look up P25 test signal audio samples and see if they sound similar. There is also a thread in the multi-state trunking forum that I believe discusses more on the signals being heard around Indiana.

it would be my preference that posts on this system go into the Mulit-state forum thread for Duke (linked above). Especially as we start verifying sites online.

(just keep that in mind, please)

2 Added the analog 900 system for counties that I travel thru with gps

Duke licenses to keep your eyes on.

WRJI625
WRJH815
WRHZ715

these are relatively new 800 MHz licenses that plot out about 15 or so Florida 800MHz (P25?) Duke sites.

Here is the master thread for Duke >>>> Duke Energy P25 System

If only I knew or thought about this, I was literally there until today only about a mile or so away from the Duke Energy station on Walsingham Rd. Not sure if that's where those transmissions were coming from, but I do recall a few signals in that 850 range, I just thought it was part of the Pinellas P25-1 system. Not even sure if it was 854.5125 & 854.6125 or not, but that range seems pretty busy around there, no doubt due to the sheer number of systems in a small radius.

here is a document from the master Duke thread that shows the build status of the Florida sites.

I am not the author of this document.

The built sites referenced above in the .pdf should be commissioned with a control channel on the air. Basic drive testing will start in the next 60-90 days. I have no idea why that frequency Doug references above is called Oviedo on the FCC license. It is far from there, actually in Christmas. That site and Holopaw are the farthest east sites in the Metro Orlando area.

its interesting the first site...1 is St Pete.
many probably don't remember, that back before 2000 the power company in our area was "Florida power" and their corporate HQ was located in St Pete.

I wonder if that positioning has anything to do with some residual management stuff that still circulates within duke energy from back then

The sites are numbered alphabetically by the site name on the license. If you look on the WRJI625 license the St Petersburg site is named "16th Street Sub", so it would sit at the top of the list since it starts with a number.

FYI: Someone keeps adding Duke Energy to Monroe County, Florida in the database.. That is a mistake.. There is No Duke Energy In Monroe County, Florida. I have submitted this info for the second time today. I also posted this in the main Duke Energy thread also.
