According to what I found years ago only the Left Channel is connected... At least thats how Unidens external speakers are connected...
The Right channel connection is not used...

Yes, the EXT speaker output is mono. Apparently, the earphone output does use both the right and left channels, but they are both the same audio :

That's good newsThere was nothing in the manual that suggested that. I searched and found a post from Upman that confirmed it. Would be nice to have that info in the manual.
On the up-side, I'm happy to report that there's been no damage to the scanner after often using it for well over a year.
