I was working on alot of those Myself, you obviously have a better source than me (listening) I have found the fire depts., especially the inter-agency talkgroups get a little confusing. eg. 3064 on a Centennial radio is "Ops-5" whereas South metro calls 3064 "C-10". same thing with 1049. Depending on what agency you are listening to, the TG description is different. I do have to say that since DC fire is dispatched by South Metro, and most of the stations are in Arapahoe County anyway, it is easier to group them both under South Metro since they both use the same talkgroups. 1053 only covers northern Douglas County anyway, which in effect is "South Metro"

Either way is fine for me, what confused me is South Metro is the name of a department and also a section of town, which are they referring too? Because if it's the department then Parker, Cunningham, Franktown, West Douglas, Castle Rock, Larkspur, Jackson 105 etc all also use those talk groups that was my only point.

Good point on the different labeling of the talk groups, I have noticed that also.

I'm confused what Luke means by 1053 covering only northern Douglas County, since it also dispatches for Larkspur and Franktown, which both cover all the way down to the El Paso County line. The only parts of Douglas County I don't think are covered by 1053 are Highlands Ranch (Littleton Fire) and Roxborough (West Metro) and Mountain Communities and Trumbull areas in the far west. Adding up the stations dispatched on 1053, I get 10 in Arapahoe County and 29 in Douglas County, with South Metro having 6 in each, although 41 and 42 are not in use right now.

As for the name, I believe it refers to the area it is in, since the actual dispatch center is in Castle Rock. Way back when I started scanning, all of the departments (Castlewood which is now South Metro, Parker and Cunningham) were all switching to Littleton Dispatch, and Castle Rock dispatched themselves and there was one Douglas County channel for the rural departments. Going a little further back, does anybody remember when Cunningham was dispatched by Aurora? Then, they split off because they didn't like the cost of being with Littleton and the delay in transferring calls. They split off, and then joined up with Douglas County. Nowadays, at least according to the Douglas County Sheriff Dispatch website, it is called "Unified Fire Dispatch Authority" and is no longer called "South Metro Fire Dispatch". I agree that it all meshes into one. I was a little confused, and wanted to clarify. I didn't mean to be insulting or anything if you took it that way.

I like being able to listen to so much on a single channel. Now, there's a metro fire department for all directions except east - North Metro, West Metro and South Metro. For all the bad feelings I had about the DTRS, now that I have a scanner, I can listen to so much more than I ever could before - until they go to 700 mhz, then I need another new scanner.

Bancroft

I remember listening to the old Bancroft Department, as well as the old Lakewood. I think Bancroft was 154.130 and Lakewood was 154.190. That was a long time ago, and I didn't know nearly as much about scanning and metro fire departments as I do know, so I was confused. For a while, Bancroft was in the 440's series (Engine 441, Squad 446). I didn't know what a squad was back then! When Lakewood said Company 491, I didn't know that it meant both Engine and Ambulance 491 - I thought it was a separate rig!

Does anybody remember the numbering of the old Bancroft stations. Here's what I think I remember each station being.

Lakewood 1 -> WM 1
Lakewood 2 -> WM 2
Lakewood 3 -> WM 3
Lakewood 4 -> WM 4
Lakewood 5 -> WM 5
Lakewood 6 -> WM 6
