I programmed the Pro-96 with the frequencies for CCCO West Simulcast and the talk groups I'm want to monitor, but I'm only getting one or 2 channels. I mostly hear Richmond Fire Dispatch 6305. I used ARC96 and imported from RR. Why can I not hear CC Sheriff West, or Hercules/Pinole, San Pablo?

Thanks,
Joe

The 96 will not do P25 phase 2 and most of the sites have switched to phase 2 now. Almost all law enforcement is encrypted.

Besides the SDS100 are there any other handhelds that do Phase 2? Also does the Software Defined Radio (SDR) handle P2? Thanks!

There are a handful of scanners that do Phase 2, but for Linear Simulcast Modulation (LSM) the only good options are the SDS-100 or a Unication pager.

Most talkgroups are Phase 2, but only a few LE agencies are encrypted (Antioch, Brentwood, Livermore, and Pleasanton). The rest are in the clear, at least for now.
Does that include Pleasant Hill Police? I was able to listen to them using my XTS and now I cant

I just got the SDR, cable, and antenna, and I will try setting this up on my Android phone.... I'll let you know how it works.... For CCCO West Simultcast there are 6 frequencies and 4 control frequencies, should I monitor them all or just one or two of the controls?

My Pro-96 used to scan continuously through all of them I believe and then stop when a transmission occurred. I'm mostly want to hear listen to activity in the Rodeo/Hercules/Pinole/Crockett area.

Thanks again to all of you for the great information, I'm learning a lot.

It sounds like you were scanning in conventional mode, in which case you would need all of them.

If you're scanning them in trunking mode, you'll just need the 4 control channels.

Scanner Support for TDMA

The following scanners can decode P25 Phase I, Phase II, and Motorola X2-TDMA systems. Source here, list modified to only include handhelds minus the SDS100 at your request.
The SDSx00s are your best bet to overcome simulcast distortion

Also does the Software Defined Radio (SDR) handle P2? Thanks!
Yes, when used in conjunction with DSDPlus or SDRTrunk. You may need more than one dongle to handle a target system depending on the usable bandwidth your dongle can handle, denoted as sample rate in URL to follow: https://alertapi.alertpage.net/sdr/. The SDRPlay line has 10MHz of usable bandwidth which is usually (though not in all cases) enough to handle a single Phase-II site or more
