Good thing the end of that article included a phone number and email address. Tempted to send out a letter or PDF email of complaint to the admin.
What are you going to complain about? You don't want them protecting peoples personal data? I worked as a police dispatcher for 30 years. When I started, I was against encryption. We had many citizens in out community that had scanners and monitored us and helped us out being another set of eyes. Now that we have the internet and live feeds available on everyone's cell phone I am 100% for encryption for law enforcement. Unfortunately the benefits for not encrypting no longer outweigh bad affects. There is just too much personal data being transmitted over the air. And for those who say "Why cant the cops just use their Mobile Data Terminals to warrants and license checks on people?" Well it is not always practical to do that. It is a big officer safety issue on traffic stops for an officer to go back to his vehicle and start doing stuff on his/her terminal if they do not have a cover unit watching the driver and his vehicle. I could name many other situations where it not practical to it as well. Unfortunately times have changed. I am not happy about but we must adapt to living in our modern world.

Is there anyone on board with an inside scoop as to when EBRCS is going to make the switch over to P25 TDMA (Phase 2)? The last I heard put it at the end of October or early November. Does anyone know if that will happen or if it will be delayed again.

??? Then what are you doing on RR? You seem to come across as "Us Vs. Them", so tell me, how's that working out in the big cities.. LE with all of its tech toys are more isolated (Mentally speaking) from the public now than they've ever been.

Personal data??? Such as??? Don't tell me someone's DL # is a big secret or the fact that they have an FTA (public record) out of another town is some national security issue.

First of all I am here because I love monitoring all kinds of stuff, not just PD, and enjoy radios. As for what personal data? How about names, DOB's, addresses, phone numbers, SSN's, relatives, etc. When someone does not have a driver's license in possession, and they are trying to confirm someone's ID, all kinds of personal info gets transmitted back and forth to confirm the subject's ID.

#1, SSN's are not ID Cards, so officers should NOT be running someone using an SSN...

This is from SSN's website: The SSN is the single most widely used record identifier for both government and the private sector, exerting a broad influence on the lives of most Americans. However, by itself, it is not a personal identifier because it lacks systematic assignment to every person and the means to authenticate a person's identity.

Here's the webpage: Social Security History.

#2, Name, DOB, Address are all widely available online.. You can even run Credit/Criminal reports on your neighbors, you just have to have a name and address...

So I noticed this morning that EBRCS has switched over to the phase 2? - 5 of my scanners are receiving and my 2 HP-1's are deaf.

Still seeing all Phase 1 grants here - checked CCCO East and Central, and ALCO East.

Other than your HP1's not receiving, do you have any indication that there actually is Phase 2 activity?

Ahh I assumed it would be system wide. So southwest sim is operating in phase 2 mode - might just be a tiered test out or....

Ya besides the deaf Hp-1's - my whistler units all had the D2 in the display. It seems they are back to phase 1 now. I wasn't quick enough to get DSD+ up to check the control channels...but now I'll be ready.
