A source for this?
Talked to them today. Feel free to contact their PIO team to confirm. They don't seem to realize that the last purchase of Motorola radios the city had that un-encryption policy pushed in with the approval process in council.
The EBRCSA claim is BS since the EBRCSA policy even says it's up to the agency.

University of California PD (UCPD) now fully encrypted. They switched zones and went dark fully at 4:26am. Oakland PD also coming in encrypted as of ~3am.

No word from Berkeley PD higher-ups yet as I work to confirm what I was told yesterday. Here’s hoping they were mistaken. So far they were still coming in unencrypted as 5am today.

Looks like OPD went encrypted around 4:45am. Everyone else is still in the clear for now.

EDIT: UC Berkeley PD switched at 3:46am, and ACSO Service 1/2 went encrypted around 4:52am.

Are they using the same talkgroups just in encrypted mode? If they're able to switch back, seems they're using selective encryption versus strapped?

Yes, but it sounds like they have the unencrypted TGs in one zone, and the encrypted TGs in another zone. A little different than user-selectable encryption. Once the cutover is complete (successfully), I assume the unencrypted TGs will be eliminated via a codeplug update.

I just shutdown my UC Berkeley Police dispatch feed to Broadcastify.

FWIW, they're currently not encrypted.

Berkeley is back! New info from their PIO:
The county wide encryption of primary radio channels is moving forward, however BPD will be maintaining its current encryption settings at this time. This means that members of the media and public will have the ability to monitor specific radio channels as they do now.

Fantastic! Glad to see that those who reached out had success the other night. :)

I’m monitoring CCCO Central and haven’t heard a peep out of San Ramon PD, are they on a different site?
