• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have several 5100ES V6 portables in commercial service that I'm quite satisfied with, and my KFDTool shipped out last Friday. I'd like to purchase a couple P25-capable mobile radios for our field service trucks, and 5300ES mobiles look like a good value/capability mix while using the same programming software.

I am aware of the issues programming 5300-series mobiles with Win10; another user reports reliable read/write using a particular USB-serial adapter and an RFGuys cable. What cable is recommended for keyloading a 5300ES via a KFDTool?

I'm curious on this topic as well, planning on installing remote-head 5300's in a few vehicles, already have the KFDTool and a bunch of 5100's.

I'm starting to think that I could build my own cable using a 5300 mic plug and an AC101 Hirose pigtail. Still a bit of a gamble with how expensive a 5300 programming cable is...just as much as the radio!

I figured I'd update this post with some new information and experience. I spoke with CJ Radio Solutions and was informed that 5300 keyload cables can be modified for use with a KFDTool. I plan to go this route; $200 for a complete cable is painful but sometimes things just cost what they cost.

Another data point: using a Keyspan USB-serial converter and an RFGuys serial programming cable, I was able to successfully read and write to a 5300ES via PCC 2.18.6 on a Windows 10 laptop. Your mileage may vary but a 32-bit machine or older OS is not necessarily required here.
