Hamilton Police intelligence has its own system which is 100% ENC. Hamilton city works, police operations and dispatch has their own trunking system too.

Hamilton Trunking System, Hamilton, Ontario - Scanner Frequencies
That is the RR page for hamilton city police, fire and works Trunking system

Waterloo/ Kitchener/ Cambridge public safety is a 1 site EDACS System consisting of police dispatch and operations, fire and public works to be analog transmissions. police intelligence, Drugs and tactical talkgroups are a form of digital that no current generation scanner can listen to.

Waterloo Region Public Safety Trunking System, Waterloo Region, Ontario - Scanner Frequencies
that is the RR page for waterloo Region Public Safety Truning system

Of course you will need a trunking scanner to track these systems and to see which id belongs to who.

Ok,so what you are saying more or less is that parts of the Hamiton and Cambridge police service is scanable with a ditigal scanner,is that correct?
Thanks

No. What hondaus90 is saying is that regular operation of Hamilton, Cambridge, Waterloo (like dispatch) can be listen with an analog scanner. However, the more sensitive operation (like drug squad, surveillance and so on) are on a different digital system but this one cannot be listen to. Breif, you need an analog trunktraacking scanner to listen to the regular operation of the police service you listed in an above post.

Both cities are 'scannable' with a scanner that is capable of trunking analogue systems. I cannot speak much for Cambridge but Hamilton's encrypted system in the DB is never used. I ran T88 on it and saw practically no activity.

with inexpensive encryption available you can expect any new or upgraded systems to be encrypted.

In expensive encryption? If it is inexpensive why havent the majority of the cities and regions switched? If anyone bothered to look you can look up your municipalities council meetings and see whether or not they are making the switch to P25 (some are) systems and if there is encryption mentioned (not in Hamilton and Halton)

Hi,if the freq.are analog, why do I need a trunking tracting scanner to listen to them, when not just enter all the freq.in a regular scanner and just scan them.

Because, the frequencies of the system are analog. In order to listen to the differents T/Gs, you need to enter the freq as trunk freq. Also would be able to see what T/G you are listenning to.

« A trunked radio system is a specialized repeater system with one or more towers, and multiple frequencies, which allows channelized, semi-private conversations between many more groups of users than it actually has allocated RF channels; this is an example of statistical multiplexing. There are many different implementations of trunked business and public-safety radio, using different trunking protocols (like P25 CAI, LTR and Smartzone) and different audio modulations (like FM, NFM, and P25), but they all function in similar ways, and current generation scanners can receive most of them » (Source : Wiki Article - Trunked Radio Systems - The RadioReference Wiki)

Don't expect Hamilton to stay in the clear for too long...

I've heard they are going P25 with enc sooner than expected. I'm hoping they only go p25 thou. I'll know more in March.

You are going to have to money up and buy yourself a scanner that is capable of receiving this system.

The database and the wiki are good places to plot a course of action.

Ok I will byte. Where do you recieve this information?
Are you a cop? A person who works for the city?
A person who has an interest in Motorola?
City councillor ? (if so, sorry)
In the reports that are online from the actual city of Hamilton it did not say anywhere that Hamilton is going to a encrypted system. P25 yes but no mention of encryption. It seems that Halton and I think Peel are going the P25 route as well. Perhaps this will make it easier for the different regions and cities to talk to each other and not be tied down to old boundaries that do not make any sense.

But again, no mention of encryption.

I think it's also just a safe assumption these days that any new system would be encrypted. A new 'in the clear' system would not be the norm anymore I'm afraid (for police operations at least).

Regarding why you would need a trunk tracker for an analog system... Trimmed systems aren't all digital. They can be all analog, all digital or a mix of both (like Fleetnet).

He is in the know Eric.. I can vouch for him.. I know the "interest" he speaks of also :)
