On my BC-125, I've suddenly started receiving 120.15 EWR North Approach on Close Call.

I've never monitored the air bands, but I don't know what would have changed that I would hear activity close enough to set off the scanner.

My first guess is that there has been a change to the air corridor for approach, or whatever it's called. But, would it really make that big of a difference?

I've been monitoring the number of hits in the past week via ARC125, it's like 3000+.

My location is upper Passaic County.

Before this, I don't think I've received an air band on Close Call before.

I actually have an ADS-B receiver on the south side of my house on the second floor. It doesn't hear much to the north.

I'm not into airband. I didn't even realize there were still beacon stations. I just remember the old LW beacons I could hear once in awhile

I'm about 10 miles east of Sparta.

I'm afraid I don't understand the map, but it looks very helpful!

I do not believe you stated weather aircraft or ground control was triggering CC.

The majority of N90 Tracon frequencies are physically located at the airport they serve.

120.15 serves North Sector.

I doubt they moved 120.15. I hear that ground station at KEWR. The liveatc feed has it loud and clear as well. Likely still located at EWR.

The KSWF Stewart N90 approach control frequency 132.75 for example is located
on or near KSWF.

I'm not sure, my inexperience with the lingo makes it hard to tell. I'm assuming it's the aircraft.

But, I've had this scanner since before I moved here in 2018. The only things that set of CC is maybe local police, fire, GMRS, CB. But, it's usually a one-shot here and there.

The change was abrupt. I've been logging my hits 24/7 since around March 1, because I wanted to see how much I can actually hear and who's active. That included the EWR frequencies. I had maybe 100 of those, none are 120.15, as of March 10.

On March 10, I stopped scanning the airbands. A few days later, I noticed all the hits on 120.15 triggered by CC.

Would they use simulating or a repeater? I am very close to Ramapo Mountain, there are a bunch of radio towers on there, one is new.

They do not use repeaters. Its possible the base station might have increased height or power.

I strongly suspect you are getting hits from the aircraft and not the ATC controller.

Generally IFR aircraft repeat instructions. ATC gives instruction.

Try LiveATC.net, Newark, N. Arrival that will have both sides of 120.15

There is a politcal blowback as to whether this change will happen. If it does happen then not before 4q 23 as no one has been trained in Philly to cover the N90 traffic.

Outrageous the way it has/has not been handled

For as long as I can remember, almost every day between 1-3pm the EWR sector
turns yellow. Delays and ground holds even when CAVU no wind.

I suspect this is in the mix.

GDP's into EWR almost daily or always planned. I always fuel up my flights into EWR for possible holding/vectoring.
