Uniden intentionally limits the level of audio available to the earphone jack so people don't damage their hearing.
It doesn't seem to restrict too much using a SDS100E and a 2 ohm speaker connected to the earphone jack that is much too loud in the room at max volume setting. The EU version of BCD436, the UBCD3600, also has a decent sound level with that 2 ohm speaker, maybe half the volume of the SDS100. I wouldn't think that any hardware have changed between US and EU models, only software. Even a BC346 have high enough audio in a room with that 2 ohm speaker, a Motorola GSN6035. I know that some older models had a series resistor that where jumped when the ground of an earphone plug where connected to the ground of the antenna connector.

The transmitter needs to charge?
Yes but it will charge while in use. I got the transmitter and it's not a great deal louder but it works.
I also have hooked up a pro135 to a small realistic pa amp with one speaker and that worked best. Had it going in the garage and the neighbors thought the cops were in the area.

The vintage receiver is for my music and the small amp with red knobs is the pa amp. The pa amp can probably be purchased at ebay dirt cheap. I got mine at a thrift store for 5 bucks.
