Remember the VHF and uhf are treated as one. If either one goes down the entire boro will switch to.citywide.

In a recent conversation with my contact at HQ, there are no new trucks coming into the city with an order to have UHF radios installed. The most recent trucks received came with a VHF (154 Mhz) radio. While there might be a slow transition, it will take quite a while and I am still considering it "future" until they will be completely a UHF system. Transitions are always hardest on those who are affected. :)

For well over one year now, any new apparatus entering service IS equipped with UHF only (not VHF). To prove this, just monitor the UHF input frequency (UHF mixer off freq) of the boro you are in, and every so often you will hear input transmissions from the newest rigs.

Absolutely correct. Multiple trusted sources have confirmed beyond any doubt that the new rigs are equipped with UHF mobiles, including a few guys OTJ and one well respected and very knowledgeable supervising dispatcher.

I appreciate the fact that N2NOV has his "contact" at HQ, but it would appear the guy is a bit out of the loop and is giving Charles bad information. That's why it's always good to have more than one source, and to have a little faith in the numerous people who are advising you that your information is incorrect.

The link you posted are my pic's. The only thing I can say about what I saw, is that in the Front Cab of R5 is there are three distinct Motorola radios. What bands they are on I could not determine just by looking at them.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A405 Safari/7534.48.3)

Clarification: I was referring only to the "Department Radio" in my earlier post regarding UHF on the newest rigs to enter service. Apparatus such as Chief vehicles and Rescues also have additional radios on various radio bands, i.e. NYPD, Coast Guard, etc.
