Fed frequency finding - Don't give up

Hey

Don't listen to the naysayers. Most Fed VHF traffic is P25 encrypted but during a search I found a Federal Agency doing an air surveillance in the clear...very interesting.

I know I know, you want the freq....but who is to say they will not flip the encryption switch if we start blabbering about it.

I second that. There is still good traffic in the clear even from agencies you would expect not to be.

They are out there, just gotta know where to find them. Mobiles are using low power unless the air ops has the long "eye". Sometimes you only monitor them while they are traveling down the freeways. Another 5 minutes later - they're gone.

What pisses me off is observing FLINT doing it's long sweeping loops and then not being to find the radio traffic, even if it's encrypted. You don't have to know what they are saying to be able to know what they are doing.

I second this

I was listening to a Federal Agency and found myself in the middle of the incident as they were getting ready to pull people out of the vehicle on the street I was on 1 block up. I didnt think anything of it cause they are normally on a repeater, but if I had payed closer attention they were on simplex ops and I could have avoided being near the situation.

What im saying is be aware of your surrounding and make sure you listen to your scanner also search from 413-419, I have found traffic in that area as well.

Recently, I heard "in the clear" a fed group that normally is encrypted. They were in a convoy going thru town and lead vehicle was pointing out landmarks and restaurants and he knew some brief history and he was funny too. a few days later a VIP was in town for a meeting and I think this was an advance team. They were on a repeated freq too. Kind of cool. only lasted for about 1 hour, then I heard nothing ever again.
