    Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued.     The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

My business partner and I are looking at setting up a repeater for multiple users to lease time on. And it is my understanding that Fleetsync and MDC do the exact same job by Identifying the radio that is transmitting. We are looking at the pros and cons but I'm leaning probably more toward the MDC 1200 because it's widely supported across numerous manufacturers' platforms whereas if we go Fleetsync we'd have to purchase more Kenwood radios seeing that it is a Kenwood-specific protocol. Am I wrong to think this?

Pretty much.

Fleetsync gives you a lot more options for data transmission, but if all you are looking to do is identify radios and maybe control repeater access, MDC1200 will do what you want and give you the ability to use other brand radios.

I still use MDC-1200 mainly because it can be used across a wide variety of model radios. We still have a mix of CDM1250s and CM300s and are now using TK-7360s & Icom IC-5021s. I really only use it for radio identification and selective paging.

I use Fleetsync for non-work operations as most of my non-work radios are all Kenwood and with Fleetsync I use Caller ID, Status, and sometimes GPS.

You can purchase Kenwood radios that support MDC1200 as well, but so does Harris, Motorola, Vertex, and probably others

Thats what i was thinking. We got to thinking about this and decided to just go with MDC

Fleetsync is proprietary to JVC Kenwood, whereas MDC1200 is available across multiple vendors products including JVC Kenwood, Icom, Motorola Solutions (of course) and others.
