• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

if it has 50 or 5 watts, would you "call the police" if you have something that you might think is illegal ?
notify the FCC, nope. you buy it and that is it.
an old friend bought a word of mouth 100 watt linear for his wife's CB,
one giveaway that it was not, was the model had a -10 at the end of it.
so i said it might only be 10 watts, and then he took it out and it had what looked like 28 gauge.
i have seen thicker stuff in computer guts.
i explained that with the thickness it might be 4 watts, but you can't complain to anyone.

“Legal” is in the hands of the people and always has been. Bureaucratic rules aren’t law.

Encrypted radio as used by government is genuinely illegal.

Try for clarity.

.

No clarity needed. You can spout off about speeding and texting, etc., like you do with every post about amps and extra power. That's fine. Like I said, nobody cares.

The OP asked about the 50W and I answered that question. It is violation of the FCC regulations. Do I care if you run 50W? No. Do I care if you run 50,000W? No. CB is a complete wasteland. I no longer use it and don't care in the slightest what happens there. I was simply answering his question.

I could care less if people violate the law on CB. It is a desolate wasteland. You do you.

Not to stoke any fire because I know I am way, way late with this meme but I was just too busy to whip it together until now. Anyone a fan of The Who? I recall them weighing in on this issue onstage :ROFLMAO:

Neither have the speed limits on roads and it’s doubtful you pay them much attention. Or texting while underway. Tailgating, etc.

So far as harm is concerned, let us know the year in which you adamantly followed every road safety law after research, interpretation and practice.

A typical Ford Fusion needs 180-feet to come to a full stop. I’d doubt you maintain 90+ feet separation at speed.

Big trucks need 700’. Ever gotten in front of a big truck to make your road exit at less than 100-yards?

— If CB worked well at 4W no one would upgrade from there. Get a clue.

Car installations need little “help” assuming a permanent-mount antenna. Start there and use a field strength meter. The dual-final exports are popular for very good reason: they work.

Many FCC regulations echo the communications Act. That *is* law. Either way, you violate the rule, you theoretically get fined. Either way, you lose.
