• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Here are some excerpts from the current FCC part 95 rules, there are no emission designators for any digital modes.

Permitted emission types. CBRS transmitter types must transmit AM voice emission type A3E or SSB voice emission types J3E, R3E or H3E, and may also transmit FM voice emission type F3E.

AM and FM. The authorized bandwidth for emission types A3E and F3E is 8 kHz.

When emission type F3E is transmitted the peak frequency deviation shall not exceed ±2 kHz.

It has nothing to do with benefit or real world situations. Its all about fun and flapping your lips in front of a microphone. A new digital mode would result in increased lip flapping and more smiles.

How would that benefit the average user in real world situations on a daily basis?

I happen to enjoy the unregulated trash that flows on the CB. It amuses me greatly. When I need a laxative, I find a CB Pastard.

I would imagine the digital have a much clearer sound that analog. That is basically it.

I have no earthly idea. I was stating a wish. If this format became a trend, like moving from 23 to 40 channels a while back, who knows what would happen?

Maybe, the quality of transmission would improve, and this might attract listeners. FM CB is now in an infancy state. I have not encountered many who are using this mode; however, the number is slowly growing. I know of a CB community who uses CB FM on a regular basis.

I would also imagine that "some" HAM operators with DMR capabilities have tried 10 meters out. I don't really know.

Now that FM has been added to CBs, I would love to see digital capabilities added as well.

Well there's no reason you can't run digital now just find a friend that wants to run digital with you on CB. Get you a TNC or an interface for sideband or FM and go for it.

I would prefer having a FM/Digital format for CB where many folks could talk. Talking to one person for any length of time bores me to death, unless the person is not boring.

Lets wait and see if FM CB even catches on before planning the next upgrade.
I can't see TDMA being used on the CB band. If they want digital, they can get an amateur license.

Nah, that would ruin it. I don't want to be subjected to OCD protocol that accompanies HAM.

There are way too many rules, regulations and snitches on HAM for my interests. I did not mention TDMA. I don't believe it would take that level of digitalization. DMR sounds more reasonable to me. I prefer considering both options at once.

You forgot to add "I'm back quite" at the tail end. Not sure what the digital word for that would be.

I can see it now:

DMR can be TDMA.

I can hear it now,
Lets go to channel 21 slot 2
Or would it be talkgroup numbers? A forty channel trunking system?
