"<Fire Co.> respond to <address> in <city> for a man who hit himself in the head with a hammer yesterday, and now is reporting severe headache."
Reminds me of the caller that requested EMS. "caller states they shot themself in the head. Responding units be advised, the incident occurred prior, seem to be yesterday, bleeding is controlled but caller reports head pain"

Ambulance dispatch: Respond to xxx Road for a motor vehicle accident. 2 patients. 1 with chest pains, 1 with regular stuff. Those of us in the business kinda know what that means!

Very interesting when the FD has to respond to the PD!

I often hear the ambulance go to the PD for a prisoner who needs medical attention. I also once heard FD go to an ambulance station because the electrical plug for what I assume was for the ambulance was smoking.

When you pull into the station the doors of the vehicle are left open and the vehicle is plugged in to a power cord... This is true for the FD and ambulance. Probably to insure the vehicle doors are never locked...

On Trinity County Texas, TxWARN system, hearing testing on a new TGID of 20176, this morning, as I was working on my computer I started hearing a strange voice.

Must be "Bring Your Daughter To Work Day" for the radio technicians, as they have a young girl around 10 years old, on as Unit 4003 talking to the dispatcher like she is a patrol unit, giving locations, asking for LP and DL checks for TX 1234, etc. At times you can hear an adult male telling her what to say.

A new radio nerd in the making. Hope it is a great experience for the young lady!

This might have been a swatting incident, no one at the address had called for help, the not on scene RP said someone at the location was threatening to harm himself. It sounded like a call back to the RP went unanswered, the PD dispatcher moved to an encrypted channel.
"Greenwich Mean-wich" time. :)
Maybe he's thinking of surviving his wife's hot flashes.

Oh, the things you hear on your police scanner....

Local PD was dispatched to a residence. Caller stated that there was a sick possum in her driveway and wanted to know if it could be shot. Dispatcher asked officer if that was something they could assist with. You could almost hear the disbelief in his voice when he said that that was something that animal control would have to take care of.

Hopefully he meant removing it and not shooting it.

PD was called by a husband who found a car parked in his yard, probably someone who meant to park in a neighbor's yard since it's brickyard 400 weekend in Speedway. Lots of folks park cars in their yards to make money. Dispatch said wife was upset, unit went on scene (10-23 in Indiana, 10-97 in California) and let husband know state law says vehicle has to be tagged for 48 hours before homeowner can have it towed.

Stupid law, had something like this happen to me with a shared 2 car garage in my old condo, neighbor took my spot.

Meanwhile back in Speedway the cop marked back in service, then wife calls dispatch and demands officer return and do something.
Officer goes back, marks in service soon after. It sounded like husband apologized for wife's call because cops tells dispatch "I advised him to use earplugs like I do when this happens at home".

Why? If you see possums in the daytime that act sick it means they probably have rabies. It's better to shoot them before they bite a kid or a pet.
And they make a good chili or potpie.

This happens locally. County animal control officers have banker hours and are generally quite cranky and rude. If an animal control type issue comes up with an injured animal like that, and it's not between the hours of 10am and 3pm some weekdays, and don't annoy them during lunch, the PD usually handles it or kicks it to the next time animal control feels like working.
Just last week one of our officers had to dispatch an injured deer. PD made sure everyone knew that a shot would be heard in that neighborhood.

Not an uncommon thing in rural areas. CHP closed down the highway a few years back while the popped a hog that had fallen out of a truck.

I've never known of a possum getting rabies. Possums are marsupials and have a little bit different biology than a mammal. I could be wrong about the rabies but IMHO, the possum was probably smacked by a vehicle and was acting goofy until it got its senses back. Please don't harm possums! They are known to eat their weight in ticks yearly, a very beneficial animal (and they clean up carrion in the woods, too!)

Agreed. I hear possums foraging in the yard occasionally at night. They are more than welcome here.

The ticks thing has actually been debunked a few times. But we're straying too many posts off topic now.
