If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have been trying to amend some of my trunking control channels in my g5. Started by deleting the unnecessary freqs. Bam. Get an error message saying the software has a problem and needs to close. So today I found out that 4.0.44 (was using 4.0.41) was available so I installed that. Went to try again and got the same message.

Anyone else having a problem with this or know what I need to do?

What version was the device programmed with?

If he is only having the issue in the software and not when he is trying to load it into the pager, why would the version in the pager matter? It will when he tries to load it, but this sounds like he is asking only about an issue with the PPS.

Are you trying to remove all the control channels? Have you tried adding the new freqs and then deleting them? Keep in mind as @jtwalker was asking about changing PPS versions may causes issues when you try to load into both the new PPS and pager.

It was programmed with 4.0.41. That's the only version I've used since I had the pager. Never a problem till now

No, just a few. When I first started with this, I loaded the control and voice channels not realizing I didn't need the Vc in there. I was taking the Vc out, then when I clicked OK, it gave me the error message. Went back to the control channels list and everything I took out was right back.

I only updated to 4.0.44 because I thought there was a problem with my original. But I'm having the same issue with the new download

You may need to start over with that system, recreate the system and then delete the old system, which goes back to @hazrat8990 suggestion.

Wow. OK. It's taken a year to build that. I have a large portion of TACN complete with talk groups and everything.

So exporting it to a .csv, how would I make the changes?

If you are a RR member you can download it into the PPS and select only what you want to import.

In a spreadsheet program Excel, Open Office, etc

I was under the impression that programming done in earlier version (like v 0.3.x.x) would not work reliably in v 0.4.x.x PPS. Maybe it's when it's read from pager, or maybe when it's pulled up from hard drive. Not sure. Either way OP was not on that old of a prior version.

I haven't had any time to mess with it today, but I may try to just add my new site tomorrow and see if it let's me. It hasn't caused any problems having the voice channels in there that I know of so they may just stay.

Not knowing any better in the beginning, I just downloaded (from the RR database) all 9 channels that were listed for the simulcast system I generally monitor. I've never changed it, and honesty have only checked a time or two what the actual frequency was, it had locked in on for a control channel. Mine has never given me a problem so I've just left it like that. It seems the Unication pager just knows what to do with what's in there. "if it ain't broke"...

Just read the pager and save the cp file as a different name. Delete the one having issues.

OK, instead of deleting the VCs I just replaced them with the CCs I wanted and that did the trick.

Next question, when monitoring TACN, it always want to lock on to site 1/70 Woodbury 800 which is in another county instead ot the McMinnville 2/89 site less than a mile from me. Any ideas on that?

I had to literally make a channel with that site and set it to site trunking to get it there. Even then it will automatically go to the Woodbury site until I change channels and switch back. Then it will enter site trunking on McMinnville site.

You should set one site per knob position, and then the desired talk groups from that site to that same knob position.

No I actually use this pager for fire and therefore I have it programmed to follow the various sites we use. I have a few channels set for general scanning but the main use is for fire paging

Your choice, either change as @K9KLC suggests or live with symptoms you are experiencing. This is how they work.

It grabs a site from the list programmed with good decode, not necessarily the best signal or closest tower.

I know of no one, actually using for fire and paging that programs it the way you have. The Unication without notice may switch sites at the most inopportune time and you'll miss a call or traffic. Good luck to you, I cannot advise further.
