• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Who? It would depend on whether they are using a repeater or on direct.

I assumed it he was referring to Gas Measurement and Regulation School from the Canadian Gas Association.

Reading the whole thread would avoid posting the same question already asked of the OP. Heck I'm not even sure this is who the OP was refering to as he has not replied since his OP.

The OP is in Alberta, 2.5-ish hours north of the US border.

Since the OP has not been back, throwing random names is pointless. Unless he clarifies and provides actual useful info we are spinnig our wheels trying to answer.

Interesting, last year I used a GMRS repeater on 462.600 north of Quebec and the owner said he had been licensed for many years.

There may be legacy LMR repeater on GMRS frequencies still, I do know GMRS repeaters are not allowed in Canada, this does not mean there are not any though.

IC(or what ever they are calling them selves this week, has reserved the 467.xxxxMHz inputs(that match the repeater pairs in the US) but they have never authorized GMRS repeaters. Simplex, @ 2w with fixed antennas only. Basically only crappy bubble pack radios on GMS/FRS in Canada.

Edit: GMRS/FRS in Canada is similar to to FRS/MURS/27MHz CB in that it is a not licensed/licence by rule. So that fellow saying he was licensed for years would likely not be accurate, UNLESS it was a legacy LMR license, which I do not think there are any, any more.

The interesting thing was the repeater had the same tone as what we use in So Cal and we took our radios to use on simplex. After chatting with the repeater users we got permission to use the repeater if we needed more range, a very nice gesture even though it probably wasn't legal.
