Hey All

Recently I saw a Sig here on RR which looked like a bb code sig or a custom sig done in PS or the like. I had posted a suggestion for this some time back and it seamed the consensus was that it wasn't going to happen. Has this changed? I cannot find the poster which had the sig attachment, but it was within the last two weeks and I want to say it was some sort of Admin or Premium subscriber who had it.

Just Curious - Thanks.

To my knowledge, there is no graphic signatures.

I for one am glad... It makes a mess and you get people that post huge images in their signature, Nothing like seeing a single word post that takes up the entire screen...

Hey Burner

Yeah I figured so. I like them if they are held to a limit but I also see your point on them as well. And without them RadioReference.com does stay cleaner looking than many other forums. I want to say I saw the Sig attached to someone in the Live Audio forums and I thought whoever it was had either a Admin icon on them or a Premium subscriber icon.

Anyways, Thanks for the Clarification and reply.

Are you sure it was part of the "signature" and not just a small image posted at the bottom of the post?

Personally, I think they can look cool if they are well made, but there would have to be a rule in place to limit their size ( say a maximum height equal to 3 or 4 lines of default font size text? ).

Perhaps graphic signatures could be a privilege reserved only for premium subscribers? Could be a way to get more people to pay for premium subscriptions.

I think what you saw was a signature picture. I'm not sure how long they have been active, but I do see a spot now to add a signature picture.

There hasn't been a rule not permitting it yet as no one has really kickstarted the idea and taken it to an abusive level. I'm very picky about signatures as I do not want them being the showcase of a post; shutting sigs off is not always a valid option. I would permit them provided they are thin in height and not intrusive.

I am willing to bet it was me that the OP saw... Sure enough, when I went to edit my signature I saw the spot to add an image in there. I'm not sure if it's because I'm a mod or what but regardless if Wayne would rather me not use it I will certainly remove it.

You're okay because with its height it wouldn't exceed the standard four lines.

If it becomes an issue I'm going to nominate you as the signature police Ben. ;)

Is there not the ability to limit the size of the image?

If there is a problem and a rule needs to be made, I would suggest a rule stating that the combination of text and graphic in a signature may not exceed a total of four screen lines.

Please make and enforce the rule. I was on one board that a bunch of youngsters took over and ran off all the old timers with their abuse of signatures.

I for one sure liked it here without although with a small, like the 4 line, may try sometimes.

If we do institute any rules it will be to keep the image no taller than four lines of text. This will be enforced with the pixel size option vB has.

ETA: I noticed for regular members they are turned off. I turned them on for a trial basis.

FYI Wayne it doesn't appear that regular users have the option to add the signature image...

I can verify that us "regular users" do have the ability to add signature pictures.

I just made a cheesy one to test it out. :)

I just noticed this topic.

There is a limit of 500px x 90px. You can also set your preferences to not show signatures and/or avatars. It's in your user control panel under Settings and Options - Edit Options.

I personally think your Sig is razor Sharp Chris !
Thanks JLM :)

That picture was just a 15 minute quickie I made with plain old Micro$oft Paint (I added the opaque overlay with G.I.M.P.).

Wish i knew how to make them.
It's pretty simple really; Make the pic in a full, easy to work with size using full-sized images, then shrink it down when you're done. A simple graphic signature can all be done with M$ Paint, you can use the stretch/skew image feature to simple type in how many pixels you wish to shrink it down to.

Personally, I think that 90 pixel height limit is far too big. 90 pixels is around 7 text lines tall (exceeding the 4-line signature size limit).

My current sig is only 40 pixels high (about 3 text lines tall) and I think that is as tall as anyone should be allowed to make one. It keeps the image small and unobtrusive, and still allows for a single text line while staying under the 4-line limit.
