From GRE America's Web Site:

GRE America, Inc. - Powered By Kayako SupportSuite

Latest release of PSR-500/600 "CPU U1.7" Firmware has been released.

CPU Production Firmware Version 1.7 release notes:

- This is the user loadable version of the Factory 1.7 CPU firmware
which will display as "uP Appl Ver:U1.7" after loading and is
identical to the factory "uP Appl Ver:F1.7" firmware.

- Please use with DSP version 1.2 or higher, otherwise some features
may not operate properly

New features:

* Changed S-E GLOB "138-174 5kHz:" item to "Bandplan:", with choice
between USA and Canada

* Changed step size to 12.500kHz in 405.987500-512.000000MHz range
when the “Bandplan: Canada” option is selected in the FUNC-GLOB
menu.

* Change stepsize between 470.000000MHz and 512.000000MHz
from 12.500kHz to 6.250kHz to handle the new UHF bandplan

Fixes / Enhancements:

* Further qualify EDACS "Individual" call grants to address a
problem where the radio sometimes tunes to MDT transmissions as
radio-to-radio calls.

* Fixed EDACS "channel number" in CCDump messages

Other:

* New DSP Boot code V1.1 to handle a different Flash IC version.
There is no user-noticable performance change.

Sounds like a relatively benign / nonexciting / nonuseful update for most. I think I won't even bother with this one.

For those who monitor EDACS though, I'm sure they'll be happy.

I'm disappointed. I wanted P25 Encrypted mute/mask. This is one of the big advantages that the Uniden 396/996 have over the PSR500/600. GRE isn't listening. Hello is there anybody home over there? The forums used to sing praises for the fact that GRE listened to its customers. We have been asking for this for quite some time and we were counting on this latest upgrade to add this needed feature. I know SOFA_KING has been rattling their cage about it, but their arrogance is starting to show. The annoyance of not having P25 encrypted mute/mask is almost enough to push me into buying a 396XT and never looking back. Uniden is closing the gap. Wake up GRE!!!

Given that my scanners are doing everything that I need/want them to do and firmware updates always bring an inherent risk of hosing something, I think I'll skip this one as well, unless there's evidence that GRE did some additional stuff (bug fixes) that isn't listed in the release notes.

All this time waiting for an update for THAT?

How lame. :(

Without getting upset this time, I agree. I opened a ticket with them a while ago and tried to get them to add the much needed P25 Encryption Mute/Mask feature Uniden has had for ages now. GRE did not listen, and it was not just myself asking for it. They even told me it is requested all the time. What a shame! It would be a complete scanner if it had that feature. I guess they do not care about what the customer wants or in my case NEEDS, as my long list of P25 stuff is encrypted 80% of the time.

1) You don't NEED it, you WANT it.

2) I'd read back on previous threads and comments from GRE on this situation before saying they don't care.

Look, rdale. I'm going to say this as respectfully as possible; It is not your place to tell me what I want or need. If I say I need it, than I need it. And please do NOT tell me what to do. You can read back if you want to.

It is not your place to "correct" or criticize other people on the RR forums. From now on I would appreciate it if you would not address me or my comments. Everyone has a right to an opinion, but no one has a right to put other forum members down for having one. ;)

Thank you.

Pointless comment - you don't NEED a scanner at all. It's just a hobby after all.

The only posts I could find that were at all informative were this one http://www.radioreference.com/forum...106-firmware-1-7-wish-list-3.html#post1003335 and the ones just before and after. Unfortunately those posts raise more questions than they answer. Maybe GRE 'cares' but they have not satisfactorily explained why their competition handles the encryption issue and they don't. This should be a firmware issue only and hardware will not be a limitation unless there are no free bytes left in firmware memory. If that is the real cause of this issue being left to fester, GRE should say so and put this to rest once and for all.

Lot's of good fixes and additions to this firmware load. I am happy about the EDACS enhancments and Control Channel Output fix.

Nice to know you can now use the correct step size when needed also.

I never realized it was sending out the wrong channel number in the CC Dump for EDACS until doing a before/after comparison. That could have messed the database up :)

Now if we could just get rid of the 8.33 MHz step size default in the VHF aero band....

If GRE includes a P-25 Mask/Mute in a future update I hope they make it switchable.... Since I do a lot of snooping and logging, I like to know if a particular transmission is encrypted or if a particular TG or freq has gone that way.

I laughed when I read this, don't take it SO personal it's the internet. Plus, if you read #2 as it is typed he said "I'd read back..." "I'd" as in the contraction "I would." He didn't say, "you should" but just "he would, if he were you." Since this is a public forum, rdale has just as much right to "tell" you as you have to ignore him. If he's harassing you just notify an admin.

Just using my right to an opinion, but seriously don't take this personal, it's just the internet and it's just scanning.

OT: What about an option to mute OTAR? I get more OTAR in South Texas than P25 encryption. I believe this has been requested also.
