I feel like I am watching a moon mission: these radios are serious improvements over the last offerings in the series, especially if they have (as it appears) made the dynamic memory more user friendly. The size looks about perfect, and the the thumb notches tell me it will be a hit-and-run radio (one-handed operation).... the LEDs will be perfect for night time use... very glad to see 700 meg on the list of offerings... wish I could play with one in the field to see what it will do. Hope it has the leveling of the PRO 96 between a couple of nearby P-25 trunked systems and the Kentucky State Police conventional system... can't wait!

... and that Don Starr guy....

Don Starr, in my opinion, has done wonders for users of GRE scanners.... his software has done wonders for opening up the potential of a scanning radio. He always responded to my emails and had answers that helped me use his stuff and become very proficient at scanning. When I purchase one of the new GRE scanners I hope Don's program is ready for use so I don't have to punch the buttons thousands of times....

No NASCAR Logo for you!!

Someone mentioned that GRE was picking up the NASCAR license (now that Uniden has stopped production of the BR330T). More than likely one if not all (since they'll want to out do Uniden) will have a NASCAR logo.

I agree 100%, I've never had a problem buying anything from him.

What would lead you to believe that they'll put the logo on any (especially ALL???) of their scanners...

God no, have to start looking for good decal to cover that one up
But if its silver, sounds like I will be darkening the whole thing

LOL :)

Honestly GRE silver looks cheap and not discrete

I am just skimming over the posts (over 4 pages since i last posted) and seen things i like. ppl mentioning computer controling, etc.

Does anyone have any idea on a timeframe of when it will come out? So I know when to start saving my pennies (well dollars.. if it was pennies i better start saving now.. lol) :)

Displays Too Small

First let me say I really love my PRO-2055, PRO-97 and PRO-96. I love the clear crisp audio that they produce, and the volume/speaker control on the 2055 is awesome, really does nicely in a noisey vehicle. My main complaint is that the screens on the 2055/97 and 2096/96 are simply too small. The PSR400 looks a lot like the PRO-2055. GRE really needs to redesign the screen and make them larger. And, I hope they spend a little more time paying attention to their quality control and don't send out another batch of scanners with bad displays, the ones that went into the early 2055s. My unit just recently fell victim to this blank screen manufacturing defect, very distressing.

I also want a GRE scanner that can be remotely controlled by computer, not just programmed.

When Uniden switched to the dynamic memory system, the scan speeds of their new units seemed to decrease quite significantly. It will be interesting to see if the GRE units with the similar feature will suffer in this regard.

I agree that they need to drop the cheap, silver face crap. Just go with basic black and put the guts into a stronger, sturdier case. I'd be willing to pay extra for a better case.

After a quick look at the scanning ranges and gaps, I notice none of them cover the 70MHz band. This is really dissapointing. I don't know why they have ommited this band range, there are quite alot of activity on those bands in some areas/countries particularly the UK. I guess there is always something not quite right but this is something else.

Deleted post, I misread the 70 for 700..... duh

EDIT: Maybe there will be an "Extended Frequencies" selection with the programming software similar to that in Win96 that would open up those freq. but who knows...

I just ask the developement team to PLEASE omit the silver face!!!

Can't it just be black? Why in Gods name does everything these days have to be silver?

Silver plastic just looks and screams CHEAP...

Sounds and looks like it may be too late for that.

I beg to differ. The 396 comes with charger, batteries, programming cable and software. When you add all of that up, the Pro-96 costs WAY more.

With any luck, the new GRE scanners will include the above mentioned items.

I would love to see GRE include these items in with their scanners and keep the same price point.

I agree that the silver needs to go, but plain old black doesn't look good to me either. The Pro-95 and previous designs looked cheap to me. I don't have a suggestion on color but the color scheme of the BCD396T is nice.

I love the fact that GRE could print individual sellers logo on the scanner. That would be awesome. It would be great advertisments for the seller, and the buyer could proudly display his/her favorite dealer.

GRE could have a winner if all of the features discussed come through in final production. I did notice that the pictures posted on the first page of this thread had the LCD on top of the scanner and the actual picture has the LCD in the middle. I would have prefered the LCD on top as is on current GRE models. I wonder why they decided to move it to the middle?

I would love to be a beta tester on this unit. I live in Arkansas and could test it out on the AWIN P25 statewide system (I also work with AWIN on a daily basis). I could also test it out on several other trunk systems and conventional. GRE, drop me a line, lets work out some beta details! :D !!

What would be awesome is if you could "customize" the lettering where a dealer logo would go. I know this would have to be custom ordered and likely never actually possible, but still. It would be cool.
