Pic looks great. It looks like they have a "final" design. Uniden's usually have make shift stickers for #'s on keys, etc.

Sounds like a scanner that may be worthy of me ditching the BCD396T for? But that decision can't be made until some of you guys get them in your hands.

Thanks for the detailed information. I have to say, if this scanner did come out with MPT1327, I know many would be interested. Particularly those in the UK and Europe. I really doubt MPT1327 will be included though, but I would definately be purchasing one of these if it had this without the slightest doubt.

GRE sells in the EU. Why not just send them an email about MPT?

Ok here ya go guys, and yes his thumb is covering Radio Shack. Looks like this was for them in the first place. PLEASE DON'T QUOTE THE PIC :D

Actually his thumb is covering Radio Shac, the K is quite visible. It certainly does show a RS heritage in it's general look and the PGM button. Above the screen there is what looks like Brail. Any idea what that is? If it is Brail, does that mean that the scanner will have some sort of voice read out?

I believe that GRE understands the desire for MPT-1327, especially in the European market.

The Chief Engineer for GRE who was present, as well as the President and Senior Business Manager were VERY WILLING to listen, and they HAVE BEEN LISTENING to what we have posted. They have done their market research well, and I believe will bring a very interesting product to the hobby.

SCANNING IS DEFINITELY NOT DEAD!!!!

With the Radio Shack logo on it, it could tell us that the radio has been developed for a time, or that Radio Shack no longer has interest in selling it. Any input on that Chris?

It's not Brail. The Pro-96 had the same thing. It is kindof a digital logo of sorts for GRE.

Ahhh, thanks. That make a lot more sense than Brail. It just looked weird.

I am trying to find the email details for GRE in Europe or anyone that I can send an email to express my interest in the MPT1327 capability. Their website has ''email'' but it is blank. Even though you say they are aware of the interest in MPT, I want to let them know anyway. Does anyone have an email address I can send to?

Try this one: gre-mail@gre.co.jp

I really like the features listed. One disapointment thou, I see the BNC connector is still there. Just hope its easily replaceable when the center pin wears out. The GRE scanners I've seen in Japan have sma connectors. This must have been a RS requirement. Not a show stopper.

That's interesting. When I emailed GRE and asked if they had any plan to make an antenna with an SMA connector, they told me that none of their scanners used SMA.

Really? I can't make it out. Can you blow up that portion and post it? The display has a lower case a and u. I think the a means that the attenualtor is off, but what would the u be?

Can I assume that the LTR repeater finder feature intoduced on the PRO-97 will be included?

The VS is the V-Scanner Folder
BTW - it takes only 4 seconds to load a new V-Scanner, versus the 15 or so seconds on the PRO-96

As for the logo, the GRE team was inquiring if dealers wanted their own logos silk-screened on the unit (so a radio from The Ham Station, R&L, Scannermaster, Universal Radio, etc. would have the GRE logo, as well as the dealer it came from).

Don't know the whole development/Radio Shack logo, etc. details.

Perhaps it was a joint development where there was a certain point in the program reviews where RadioShack may have decided to walk away from the project - I don't know.

Also, please understand that these WERE prototypes and the artwork is conceptual.

I've worked in the automotive electronics industry for 15 years and there is a lot of "proof of concept" with existing tooling, PCB designs, etc. where the prototypes and actual production look like two totally different things.

At times, you're validating the design while work continues on new tooling, molds, dies, etc. - it's an interesting industry to work in, and gives some insight on why we get impatient at times because of delays on scanners. Look inside your next car or even PC - every one of those little components is another tier of supplier parts which have to be designed and validated. It's a complicated world in which we live in.

Don't know about the LTR Repeater find feature.

Again, one of those details missed in the blurr of activity.

Keep the questions and suggestions coming.
You never know who might be viewing this discussion (wink, wink)

This is great

Wow...
I was hoping GRE would do something to keep their scanners going.
This should be good.
I use my PRO-96 about every day and I need something that receives LTR also.
I was reluctant to buy a Uniden handheld due to the lack of audio.
If these handhelds are close to the PRO-97 size, I think that will be perfect.
The 97's really crank up nice....
Can't wait to see these.......
