The VS is the V-Scanner Folder
BTW - it takes only 4 seconds to load a new V-Scanner, versus the 15 or so seconds on the PRO-96
As for the logo, the GRE team was inquiring if dealers wanted their own logos silk-screened on the unit (so a radio from The Ham Station, R&L, Scannermaster, Universal Radio, etc. would have the GRE logo, as well as the dealer it came from).
Don't know the whole development/Radio Shack logo, etc. details.
Perhaps it was a joint development where there was a certain point in the program reviews where RadioShack may have decided to walk away from the project - I don't know.
Also, please understand that these WERE prototypes and the artwork is conceptual.
I've worked in the automotive electronics industry for 15 years and there is a lot of "proof of concept" with existing tooling, PCB designs, etc. where the prototypes and actual production look like two totally different things.
At times, you're validating the design while work continues on new tooling, molds, dies, etc. - it's an interesting industry to work in, and gives some insight on why we get impatient at times because of delays on scanners. Look inside your next car or even PC - every one of those little components is another tier of supplier parts which have to be designed and validated. It's a complicated world in which we live in.
