Almost all GPS troopers I've seen are still carrying XTS 700/800 Mhz radios. They still use a pac/rt mobile repeater whereby the handheld XTS transmits analog on a 700/800 Mhz conventional freq. to the car and the car repeater transmits it over the high power VHF P25. GSP is going to keep this set up into the foreseeable future.

The handheld XTS radios are almost always also programmed with any local DTRS. For example all the troopers in Valdosta have the Lowndes DTRS TG's programmed into their radios.

DNR Rangers have pretty much the same setup now too.

I've monitored DNR and GSP on 159.600 (Lake Lanier area). Very busy during last year's ice debacle. Even Hall county has linked with those two many times on their P-25 system.

For the last week or so I've heard regular GSP activity on "stateband". I overheard one QSO if you will, where they described some problems they were having with a particular site/base station and they said they were going to use stateband instead until the problem was resolved. If my memory serves me it was post 27 but don't quote me on that. I think there might have been having a band opening though but I didn't hear the whole story.

The counties that I (can still) monitor, GSP pops up on the local SO repeater when they're in town. They announce that they are there. I'd imagine they're equipped to use whatever local radio systems are in the area they're covering.

RC, I believe that I posted here either in this thread, or a related one, that GSP in Forsyth, Post 37, are using the state bands because of the problems getting the new repeater to work. But, I have heard GSP Jackson, Hall, Dawson, and Forsyth on the state bands.

Yeah I know this was wayyy up there. Want to say it was Towns county.

Edit: I just went back and "checked the tapes" as calls are always monitored and recorded for quality and training purposes :D

The Brawley mtn and Brasstown Bald mtn, the transmissions they're receiving, they cannot understand them. When Toccoas units are talking, they're receiving over both Toccoa's tower and the tower in hiawassee.

Why do you insist on being OCD about Forsyth the city and Forsyth the county:confused: Others don't seem to have a problem up in N GA.
If you don't have anything positive to say, just don't post.
Now I know why you don't post your name.

OCD?

Someone said "GSP Forsyth", which caught my interest, after further review, I saw in fact it was NOT "GSP Forsyth", thus me pointing that fact out. I live near Forsyth, Ga. (The city) and it affects me when I see "GSP Forsyth" has something new, only to find out someone posted it wrong.

A brief Georgia Geography lesson could be very beneficial to you. (IE; the huge difference in counties and cities) and would save others of us that know the difference, the aggravation of trying to figure out what you are really trying to say.

I knew full well which Forsyth Larry was talking about. He lives 5 minutes away from me. And seeing as how he replied to my quoted text, I'm the only one that needs to know what he meant. Case dismissed.

Well, as a paid subscriber here too, and living in the area of question, I feel I have as much interest in this as you do.

If this was so private, why not PM, email, call him, or even use your tin cans and string?

GSP Forsyth: https://dps.georgia.gov/post-44-forsyth

I think the DPS has it right.....

I can see that! :) Maybe we should get together for a cup of coffee or a beer and talk about it. What part of town are you in?

It wasn't meant to be private. It was just intended to be received by someone (me) who already knew what Forsyth he (Larry) was talking about and because we both live close to that county (Ferrsaaath), it didn't require any further explanation. It's unfortunate that your feelings were apparently hurt and that you felt left out but that isn't what we meant to do. Sowwy. Here's a hug
