• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello all,

MOTOTRBO tech here. I recently pulled a good/working GTR8000 from operation for a system conversion and am trying to connect/reprogram that. This was operating in conventional P25 mode.
I'm using the latest CSS version from customerhub (CSS Version 40.40.27) after sucessfuly connecting I trying to read the device config I get this error "CSS is not compatible with current devision version. Interface Version: R028.00.033" Photo attached.
Should't the latest version be compatible with prior firmware or do I need a specific version of CSS for that firmware?
Thanks in advance.

Not a big Motorola person but if I were betting I would say you need Software R028.00.033. I am sure someone that deals with this more often will chime in with a answer.

GTR's are a different beast.

You have to download an older version like 2019.2 or 7.17.2 to talk to it.

CSS "should be" - backwards compatible - albeit can't recall by how many releases.
For example 7.17 reading 7.15, etc.

Your other possible "gotcha" is if MotoCSS SNMP is enabled.
There are default values set by CCSi (won't be mentioned here), you'll
need to reach out to your ST to obtain that information. Of course
SSC can also provide it, but be prepared to ID yourself, the system,
SUA contract# etc, etc.

Other gotcha, if "mac port lock" is enabled (the "solution" looking
for a problem... smh ...) Good luck with that.... you'll need to connect
serially (in which case, if MotoCSS is enabled - thank the A-hole IT
admin that demanded it be set because your back at square one) - other
option UNC ..... Yeah, reach out to your sales POC to get an ST onsite.

For your sake, cross your fingers it's just the CSS release being
outside the allowed window of prior releases.
