I setup the Icom cable, and Icom USB drivers, the connected the radio. The drivers configured in two ports, but HRD can't communicate over either of them. I have a paid version of the full program in case that matters. I've tried all the suggestions that the program offered, such as try DRS, or RTS, but I get the same results,

I set the radio to put control over USB.

Has anyone been here and done this who will offer some information on my problem?

tnx, Joe

It shouldn't be that difficult. I have an IC-7600 and the USB interface works great with HRD 6.2.

You say the interface is on two ports? I think you may have a problem with that. If it were me, I'd disconnect the USB cable between your radio and computer, reboot your computer, reinstall the driver. You do have the version 1.20 driver, correct? (Firmware Updates / Software Downloads | Support | Icom Inc).

After reinstalling the driver, connect the USB cable between the computer and radio (using the USB port on the back of the radio). Windows should initialize the USB device (the "da-donk" sound). Then check Device Manager to see which COM port Windows has assigned. Configure HRD with that COM port number and make sure the CI-V address matches your radio. I run the CI-V baud radio at 19200 (set in the radio). Also, "CI-V Transceive" should be OFF.

tnx, i did get it to work, and most of what you said I did to the radio config. In any case, I got it working, but I am a long way from getting it all configured.
I have a QRZ subscription, and I think I just got that to work. I will stick with it until I fugure it all out.

I also use HRD 6.2.316 with an IC-7410.

You might want to consider signing up for the HRD forum at: Ham Radio Deluxe Peer-to-Peer Support Forums. There are a lot of users over there with many years of experience with the program. The owners and tech support guys also follow those posts so you are likely to get a better response quicker over there than here.

I use HRD 6.2.72.294 with my IC-7200 and it also works beautifully on that rig. DM780 I actually like better than FLdigi because it does a better job of integrating with the logbook and more integrated rig controls for switching bands on-the-fly and hitting a freq dead-on without having to spin the VFO on the rig. Because the rig controls are so complete, I've gone to using my IC-7200 as a SDR even on SSB phone. Having all the filter shapes and widths, and IF shift all in one place on the screen, I can tune out interference much quicker and more accurate using HRD than I can with the knobs and buttons on the rig.

It takes a bit to get used to HRD because it's pretty complicated. But it grows on you after awhile and is well worth the license fee for it IMO.

I echo the thought of getting on the HRD forum, as there's folks there that can help with just about any problem you'd have with it.
