No, it has not improved at all. There is still a lot of static. I am five miles from the tower, and when the static happens I am only getting 2-3 bars on my signal strength meter (396XT). I can't even count how many times I've heard "repeat you were broken."

Yeah, I wonder what they will do if any Hamilton Co units have to come down this way, half the time I can't get the CC now in the house since the change (and thats with an outside antenna). The only good thing is it's very rare to have them down here, but if they have to come here will their radios work at all? Talking to one Hamilton Co detective he can't get a signal in McCordsville since the changeover.

Have just switched from their EDACS system to the Safe T system. Going to go with county wide Dispatch on this system. Not sure if all have made the change but my man @ NFD states they have made the change to Safe T system. They will continue to use Verizone for their MDT's.

I am in Oklahoma. My son is on NFD. He advised me this week that they have switched to Safe T and for time being EDACS will be a backup. That all services in the county are going to one dispatch center which was mandated by state government.

Just heard a PI dispatched at SR 32 and Logan...NFD units were dispatched on the Edacs system. Maybe they are using Safe-T as a backup??

Well he heard wrong yes there is One DSP Center for Hamiltion County and One for Carmel in Hamilton County Two for each County as Mandated not one and Yes NFD is still on EDACS Safe T for back up right now. For one the County does not have the funds to get every one new radios plus one tower covrage for the county and it has a lot of dead spots on Safe T it was the countys goal some day to be on Safe T but Money is being spent on there own system and upgrade for the EDACS.
Now with that said Hamilton County must use Safe T from time to time to keep there ID'S on Safe T

I hope they continue to "tweak" the new tower and power output....the system just doesn't sound good. However, I'm afraid we are stuck with the system...as w8fcc stated...not enough money for new safe-t radios. Speaking of the EDACS system...I heard on the news when President Obama was in Kokomo today the fire department showed him new radios purchased with federal money....is Kokomo wanting to leave their EDACS system or are they just getting safe-t radios to talk to surrounding agencies?

In contrast to Hamilton County, Howard County's EDACS system actually works very well from what I've heard. However, it is not a simulcast system.

The new tower appears to have made no difference in coverage. If anything it's actually worse than before when I monitor from Indianapolis.

I can hear Hamilton County's system a lot better then before now that they are on the New Tower. Hamilton County Sheriff and others on the system to me sound a lot louder on the audio. The system sounds fine on the Northwest Side of Indianapolis in the area of 79Th and Michigan Road in the W9NES Comm. Center.

The mandate calls for NO MORE THAN TWO public safety dispatch centers in a county, not that two are required. If a county wants just one they can have just one, but, the days of 5 or 10 departments having their own dispatching is gone.

Same in Madison Co. A couple weeks ago a fire in Pendleton had 12 departments ALL working together, no issues with patches. Yet no one can work with Hamilton Co without issues with patches, or channels losing audio, or complete system failures.

Because Madison county doesnt patch.

TYCO is still on the Web and Selling EDACS equipment I would think they could just get there stuff there not sure when TYCO sold out to Harris But a search on the web there still selling EDACS stuff. My Luck they will go to Safe T in a year and I wont be able to hear them as well as I do now

I don't think they'll be going to SAFE-T any time soon. Hamilton Co is way too big with way too many radio IDs and TGs to use SAFE-T full time. If they ever do change, they will most likely migrate to Harris P25.

System in Bypass Mode 6-1-11 21:30

Hamilton County dispatch is in bypass mode. They are using portables in dispatch. They were told to get the SAFE-T radios ready for backup!
