I submitted the tower information for Kailua-Kona (WQVS330) to the database, discovered that information while decoding on PRO96Com with Whistler 1088. Not able to get the other tower information yet, still going through all the data collected earlier today, will submit the rest of the Tower ID and Frequencies as I finish going through it. Hopefully solved the issue with no hearing anything.

And here's the other thing. since it appears there are only 4 of us discussing this, can we talk to each other outside this page? Or is privacy a real issue? It's like our little club. I'd love to talk to you folks who have more knowledge than I do.

Hi PB808,

I am waiting on my scanner from amazon and in the meantime I am loading up frequencies into a file that FreeScan uses. My first attempt is to load up all frequencies I found in this forum and hope that I'll get some hits. I wanted to attach the file but the extension is not supported (.996) Here is my email if you want to try exchanging information directly. gorman AT hawaii dot edu my first name is Bill

So you are hearing traffic fine on your 1088? Just curious, did you do any teaks of the default settings?

I've wiped the SD card clean on my Pro-668 and re-loaded the system keeping everything as default and still getting no voice traffic at all. I'm at a loss, guessing I have a bad unit. Yet I can still receive the Maui system with no problem, go figure.

Have you tried turning attenuation on for your PRO-668? The Honokaa site transmit power is listed at 130 watts of effective radiated power (ERP). Also, the Laupahoehoe site is listed at only 20 watts ERP.

I have tried that, yes. I find I do need to have ATT turned on on both my BCD996P2 and HP2. Yeah, being so close to that Honokaa site is pretty much killing everything else around me.

I've driven up to Waimea and get nothing from that site either on the Pro-668. I am hoping to get down to Waikoloa area this weekend so I can test out the Kahua Ranch and North Kona sites.

EDIT: I should mention though, during the testing phases there was a period of time when the Honokaa site was not active but the Laupahoehoe site was up. I still couldn't get anything on the Pro-668 even though the BCD996P2 was picking up testing traffic just fine. Weird.

Interesting. I was monitoring Kulani, Hilo, Pepeekeo, and Laupahoehoe. Humuula was not active when I left for the mainland. I will post a list of all the talk groups found while the radios were being programmed along with an updated map with site ID, elevation and ERP when I get back to Hilo Friday night.

Scan18,
for my Whistler 1088, I adjusted the Multi-Sites Settings for Data Decode threshold from the default to 15 (Low) to 99 (High) for all sites. From there, Put Sites Towers in Order according to decode information. After that, I put all the site frequencies in order of the control to alternate and Turn off the ATT for all sites. That's how I got it to receive voice on my end, I don't know if that would help for the Pro-668.

My friend is currently looking at it and playing with the settings on it and hopefully gets a hit with it soon. There a lot of dead spots, especially in like valleys or bays, we had a very weak signal and seeing nothing.

Thanks, yeah, I've played around with the Data Decode thresholds on the 668 with no luck.

I'm thinking about returning the HP-2 I bought recently and getting a BCD436HP. The HP-2 works great, it's just a little clumsy as a portable.

Also tried Locking Out distant sites away from Kailua-Kona for the Hawaii County System, Kept only the tower sites within 20 miles from me when I go traveling around Kona and notice a significant difference in signal strength while making that adjustment and 1088 shows decoding talk groups, nothing popped up yet. I can hear the Kona Airport Trunk system and Maui County P25 system, with no problem but nothing still from Hawaii County in Kona. Kind of Weird, hopefully get something here soon.

I have two BCD325P2s and two BCD436HPs. All are working fine in the Hilo area. Receiving Kulani, Hilo, Pepeekeo and Humuula. Trying to identify TG 6109 on Kulani.

TG 6109 is Kau. 6108 is probably Kona.

Nice job on the map, thanks!

I agree with your findings regarding TG 6107, it appears to be District 5 North Kohala which I had previously submitted to the database. But for some reason, it got updated today in the database to District 7 Ka'u.

Does it look like any of the Frequencies are encrypted at this time. I was told the SRU & CIU units may be going to encrypted or may have already started to encrypt

Submitted a correction this morning. I might have confused the admin with multiple submissions last night and this morning.

It appears that each fire district has its own command talk group. Also, have not heard anything on TG 6500. All dispatching has been done on 6505.

Ok thanks, yeah, I think the admin may have been getting annoyed with all my submissions lately too, lol.

Fire control was using TG 6500 for dispatch for a couple days when they first started using the new system a couple of weeks ago. You're right, since then all dispatch has been done on 6505.

scan18 keep up the good work. We need observations from all districts in order to gain a good understanding of this system.
