Help a total newbie???

Hello!

I am a total newb with these scanner things and am confused at the moment. Basically, I bought my girlfriend who is a journalist a Radio Shack PRO-528 about a year ago and it has not gotten much (any) use because we really don't know how to use it.

Tonight, I think I figured out trunking and I input a range of frequencies and am currently listening to a bunch of fire and medical calls. I have many questions now.

I programmed using the directions I pasted in below.

Enter remaining control channels (up to 4)

14. SRCH Trunking starts
* Push an arrow until you see the Band Plan for your system.
PL1: If ALL the frequencies end in 125, 375, 625, or 875.
PL2: If freqs. are below 869.0000 and end in 125, 375, 625, or 875 AND if any frequencies end in 000, 250, 500, or 750.
PL3: If ALL freqs. end in 000, 250, 500, or 750.
PL4: If freqs. are below 866.0000 and end in 000, 250, 500, or 750 AND if any freqs. end in 125, 375, 625, or 875.

I entered PL2 as the following are the frequencies I entered (taken from this link Lakewood / Wheat Ridge / West Metro Fire Trunking System, Lakewood, Colorado - Scanner Frequencies)

Now. I am only getting fire it seems. I would like to get police as well, specifically lakewood, denver, wheat ridge, arvada, littleton, and jefferson and denver county sherriffs.

Any advice?

Also, I will probably have a ton more questions. I am enjoying this so far, would love some advice!

It looks like most of what you want to listen to is digital and your scanner don't do digital

I believe that Lakewood is a ESK edacs system Im thinking your scanner will not track it its to old

AS a Newbee you might want to check DB and find convetional freqs just to confirm scanner is working right

then if you want to try a trunking system under Adams county program the westmister/arvada edac system your scanner should track that one
