You can remove the front cover easily without removing any of the pcb guts, the lcd is then right there mounted to the pcb like some arduino device, not to the lid.

It seems from the original description of the event, it slid off your bed and onto the floor, after which you noticed the "dust" in the display. This might seem to indicate, as some have already mentioned, that this piece of debris was already somehow in the display and perhaps had managed to lodge itself along the inside edge, unnoticed. The shock, however minor, might have dislodged it into a more prominent view.

As tveger suggests, blowing into the earphone jack or along side the menu buttons, or perhaps some pressurized air, could dislodge the culprit. My friend also suggested trying a magnet, although not sure how that would affect the display. Also rubbing the display with your finger might generate a small electromagnetic field and cause the particle to move, providing that it is not a pixel issue.

I am aware how disconcerting these issues can be when they affect the display, after all, it's literally staring you in the face. Sometimes we have to live with these minor issues, like the "ding" in the car I mentioned above. You could also send it back to Uniden--- I forgot if you mentioned whether or not it is under warranty, or just continue to use the radio as-is and tolerate the imperfection; many a great guru will tell you that nothing in life is perfect. That's likely what I would do--- continue to use it an enjoy it, and if something more substantial occurs in the future you could then send it back to Uniden.

In fact, if there is a bright side, once a unit starts to get a little "weather-worn", some of us actually tend to use it more, and bring it out more, and carry it more, since it's already a little "scuffed".

I understand and empathize--- I remember when I was younger these things would sometimes drive me crazy. In the scheme of things, it's just a minor issue and it marks that radio as uniquely being yours.

That was my thought. You may remove that spec only to find you blew two more into the display area - even if you do not work in a lumber yard.

Something else to try is to tap the bottom corner of the unit to see if you can dislodge it out of where it is. I would
not tap on the area where the battery latch is located regardless of whether you have the newer latch or the older one.

It's like getting that first "ding" on your brand-new car. For some, it's just par for the course, owning a piece of equipment that gets "handled"--- there will be some eventually wear & tear; for others, it drives them crazy.
Unfortunately for me, it does drive me crazy. I just wish the manufacturing was a tad better.

Thinking about it, I bet it was in there from manufacture and when it was dropped it, dislodged it? Just guessing.

This. I have even read in the past on forums about expensive new watches which are totally sealed from the factory and suddenly specs of dust appears under the watch crystal, either by static electricity or an impact. The owners go nuts and would too as i absolutley hate dust under any of my screens.

As others have mentioned, unless you can open it up in a dust free environment (almost impossible), you will end up introducing new dust or upsetting other specs of dust already in the unit.

I once took apart a brand new Eton Elite Executive SW radio because it had a large spec of dust under the screen straight from the manufacturer, opened from a sealed box.
Long story short...i ended up taking it apart and putting it back together over 5 times because each time i would introduce more and more dust. 😢

Wishing you goodluck!
