I'm trying to monitor the Franklin County P25 system with a BCD536HP. I have tried using the RR database with Sentinel which says it's a P25 system but I thought it is a phase 2 system. So, I manually programmed a new favorite list and set the system type to phase 2. I still hear nothing either way. I live 3.7 miles (according to Google Earth) from the nearest tower. I have searched the forums and the Googleverse with no success. I know this is a tricky system to monitor, do I just live too close to the tower for my scanner to decode this system or what?

Phase 2 is P25. There is no setting in Sentinel for "Phase 2", so you likely chose X2-TDMA, which is the incorrect system type. P25 Trunk is the correct system type in Sentinel, which is what it is already set to from the RRDB. Oh and yes, Franklin County's system is P25 Phase 2.

Franklin County is simulcast hence most likely why you arnt hearing anything on the 536. You'll need an sds100/200 to overcome the simulcast issue unless you want to do antenna work

Please attach your favorites list so that we can take a look at it and check for problems. Go to the File tab in Sentinel and click on Export to hpe file (Favorites List). You will need to zip the exported file to be able to attach it. Click on Attach files and open the zipped file.

Franklin County is not on Viper, it’s on a separate system but it does have talk groups patched to Viper. I just appended the system from the RR database in Sentinel as a favorite list. I also created another favorite list as TDMA to see if that would work, but it didn’t. I guess since I am so close to a tower, my scanner just can’t decode the simulcast. I hear absolutely zero traffic on this system.

If you are very close to a tower, the signal can override the out of phase interference from the other towers. Please attach your favorites list. Instructions are in post #7. What is your city?

I don't see any problems with your programming. If you are using a rooftop antenna, unplug it and use the back of scanner antenna. Also, try turning on the attenuator for the system. Anything you can do to decrease the signal strength can reduce the number of subsites received and improve control channel decoding. You can try removing the scanner antenna and replace it with a paperclip inserted into the center of the connector. Also, try pointing the antenna different directions and moving the scanner around the room. Sometimes, increasing the site hold time to 2 seconds can help.

I have previously listened to it previously on my Unication G5 but now nothing. I've triple checked the database and all is correct.

I used to be able to get some traffic occasionally, but nothing recently. I don’t even hear anything on the talk groups patched to Viper.

Five of the six frequencies show as control channel capable in the database. A Motorola Astro P25 system has a primary and a maximum of three alternates. That leads me to believe that it may be a Harris system where any frequency can be used as a control channel and they frequently rotate. Enter all 6 frequencies to be safe.

It is a Harris system(for now). Program all 6 channels as Control Channels. They dont swap often but have in the past..155.43 is the usual and current CC according to my G5.

Locution paging testing the past two days on the Countywide group TGID#115.

I’m assuming this will be integrated once they switch to the new 800mhz system.
