I am monitoring Franklin County on a Home Patrol II and also on my PC with SDRTrunk software and an SDRPlay RSPdx. Their audio is distorted but it is trunking OK by both methods I am using. I am between Youngsville and Franklinton. BTW, I retired after managing the Durham trunking system for 16 years.

To be expected with the HP-II due to simulcast distortion. Youngsville appears to be within listening range of two (maybe three) towers of the Franklin Simulcast and this causes the issue you described. You'd be much better off with a Uniden SDS100 or SDS200 to monitor simulcast systems. Other mitigation methods are mentioned in the wiki I linked but they work in few cases

Youngsville has always had coverage issues. They were somewhat mitigated when the site was added just north of town. This new 800 system being built out has a tower right in the middle of town so hopefully Youngsville will be in good shape.

All that to say-between simulcast and spotty coverage in youngsville you’ve got your work cut out for you.
