Was it new or used when you got it?
If used, did the seller demo the unit so you knew it was working.
How did you format and reinitialize the card?
What file system did you format it.
You MAY have a dirty or broken SD Card holder.

Inserting a new SD Card will not work, it needs to be properly formatted and programmed. You can do that with Sentinel by using the "Clear User Data" command in the HomePatrol menu then updating and writing the database and your Favorites Lists the the SD Card.

If this is beyond your abilities then perhaps it might be best to purchase a pre-programmed SD Card from Scanner Master or another dealer. See SD Card Upgrade for Uniden Database Scanners | Scanner Master

These cards are all set to pop in the radio and work out of the envelope. While I always encourage people to program their HomePatrols themselves, if you do not have a Windows computer or otherwise are not able to do it yourself, then paying someone to create it for you might be a better alternative. You can also see if there is another scanner hobbyist in your area who can help you program your card.

Good luck either way!

Hi I have the home Patrol 2 and get the same message sd card error when I put in a new sd card and using the Uniden Sentinel software also it's been cleared and formatted a number of time and when you go to put it into the scanner with a program from The Sentinel software it comes up SD card error please remove batteries and power for 1 minute and try again and you get no results so there is an ongoing problem it's not just you I hope somebody out there has a way around it

Make sure you are using the "Home Patrol Sentinel" and not the "X36" version. The Home Patrol version has a brown (or is it orange?) icon, the x36 one has a green icon. While quite similar they are not compatible.

Also, you need to use the "Clear User Data" menu item first on a newly formatted SD Card, this makes the card readable by the scanner, otherwise the scanner does not recognize the card. You will probably need to click the "View all drives" box on the pop-up after selecting "Clear User Data".

Hi there I appreciate the feedback I really do I do have the most recent and updated Sentinel software I have formatted the card to FAT32 I have did the clear user data and then reinstalled the new data put it back into the home Patrol to and still does not work it says with an error message please remove batteries and Power for 1 minute and try again that's all I get I called tech support at Uniden a tech on the phone informed me that the card readers on the home Patrol 2 have called carrier problems and has to be replaced the card reader carriers have to be replaced they are intermitting and they are aware of the problem you have to send it back for repair through UPS that's what the woman who I was talking to which is a tech set on the phone has nothing to do with what I'm trying to do it is the Uniden itself and in some other threads that I read other people are having the similar problem

Sounds like it is a defective card holder then. What size card are you using though? The HP2 does not work with cards larger than (I think) 32 GB so make sure you are using a card smaller than that.

I've already done it I suggest everybody does it too because eventually they all break and I'm sure yours has had that problem too and if you haven't had that problem you're one of the lucky ones that hasn't had that problem and don't be nasty

It's crazy because it was working with the original SD card I had no problem but when I removed the original SD card which was 4 gig and I wanted to put in an 8 gig SD card it quit working and started having the error card messaging then I put back the original card that was working and that wasn't working anymore either with the original card that came with my home Patrol too I got the error message

You might want to try ordering a preprogrammed SD card and see if that works. That will eliminate any repair fees and will prove that the issue is with formatting or configuration. It will also give you a spare card.
