• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

No need to go on a Hamophobic rant.

I'm pointing out that you can put together a better quality side adapter than either the OEM cable or the badly and cheaply printed ebay special. I sold my OEM cable. The OEM cable still had mold release flash all along the connector seam lines. The ones I put together are a better made and more flexible option.

And frankly I'm getting quite the chuckle out of defending such an obviously cheaply made and badly printed adapter for $90+

Is this ebay special yours or a partners? Why are you and nikronzo so interested in defending it?

If you want to call it anything - its because it made you feel some sort of way. Out of all the hams I know - most are on here providing advice to the otherwise "point and click appliance operators" that refuse to learn or DIY a single thing. So the fact you fit that stereotype to a T about "I can do it for less" while arguing about it instead of actually shutting up and doing it... speaks volumes. Sorry I took several days to reply... I was too busy doing instead of talking.

The fact still remains that you are paying for someone's time and knowledge on top of the BOM of producing said part. If you think you can do it for less... GO. I will happily await the release of your product and I will gladly purchase it as I do with most community-led designs to support small businesses in an otherwise commercial world. You can ask all the KFD designers, I have bought most of them sitting right on my desk even though I don't need a single one of them. Just the same as DIY'ed cables sitting next to my OEM ones. This is actually a hobby and passion on top of my day job, so I will happily defend people that actually add to the community.

So its your turn. Step up or step aside.

Same can be said for almost every other ham product out there that can be DIYed with a soldering iron and a few bucks in cables and terminations but instead I see mountains of CAT cables, coax, etc
I'm not a HAM so your HAMophobic rants are moot.

Your posts seem to point at you fitting this stereotype you apparently came up with. You chastise the HAM's with "but instead I see moiuntains of CAT cables, coax, etc and then post about hoarding most of every KFD made and having DIY'ed cables sitting next to your OEM ones.

Surely you see the irony. You have added nothing but a hypocritical rant about HAM's.

I only pointed out to the OP that there was an alternative to the 'ebay special' if he was "weary" of it's less than stellar looking build quality. I have built several of them because they were a better option than the OEM cable and the ebay special.

Where you came up with this "challenge" to make and sell them, I have no idea. No one ever indicated such a thing.
