Where is the best place to obtain freq. for Houston county and city of Warner Robins? I am new to scanning and received a new RS pro 96 for as a gift. Store was unable to load frequencies due to computer problems but I was given a list . Clerk told me frequencies were changed because of interferance but some should work and they do. I would just like to have an updated listing.

Thanks

go to rad shack at centerville galleria and see jarod the store manager and ask him to make a clone. i keep him updated periodically with a clone of mine. you can also find frequencies for this area on this site and at scanatlanta.com. 73's and good scanning wd4brb

i dont know about you, but reception is HORRIBLE down here off walnut and ignico right outside the base. im sure its got nothing to do with the band since rafb works off AM and 400 UHF trunking. ive been running on the beta firmware with the 396T but its just acting horrible. the tower isnt but almost 5 miles away off elberta at the old flint building.

Try attenuating the signal.....if you're near a NEXTEL site, it'll ruin your 800 MHz reception.

There are a few Georgia cities that have great reception everywhere, except near a collection of cell antennas. I did an FCC search and found they contained NEXTEL & SoLinc freqs. I asked a radio tech and he suggested the ATT when traveling nearby. Albany is a great one, if you're near the mall. Atlanta has several spots.

Why do some people have problems and others do not? On Houston and Dunbar my PRO 96 can't pick up anything. It receives Peach and Bibb county fine. Is there a cell tower on this side of town someplace?

There's a tower up north 247 close to the National Guard gate, then there's a tower behind WRPD/Young Ave. I'm just off Ignico. Even though im around alot of trees, that shouldn't make a difference since im not far from the old Flint building.

Right now ATT doesn't quite help. It's just as bad. Since I'm in a trailor, I put a glass antenna on my window and have it sticking straight up and still doesn't do any good.

Also a while back I wasted money on a GRE amplifier. I'm sure you know the result of that. :(

Let's put it this way... Since the control channel is on 855, it's very weak. 854-855 is terrible. 856-857 does alot better. What's the point of the TRS only using that short range when they got more towards 860? I know the first is a beacon.

So, any ideas that the new RS Scanner (PRO 106) will fix the problem or it it going to be a waste of money?

Looks that way. You're somewhat near the interstate and the turn-off at Byron/Macon. There's definitely towers, so getting another receiver will be pointless.

I've got a BC-296D and have the same issues tracking Houston county! I'm seeing a trend here with Uniden radios having issues with this 9600 system. Here is what i've experienced:

About 40-50% of the transmissions get clipped, although my signal bar will read a steady S-4. I've tried an external antenna LMR-400 coax as well as the RS 800mhz whip with not much success. I can drive around mobile and every so often hit a "sweet spot"... I've tried all the manual Sound Quality settings (Hold #9 in for 5 secs). Also Tried ATT with no luck.

Im located Lake Joy/Russell with a nice open backyard. No other towers in immediate vicinity. 3nm from the Centerville tower and about 3nm as the crow flys from main dispatch tower site. When I purchased the 800mhz antenna from the Watson Blvd radio shack, the sales dude had a Pro-96 on the countertop trunk tracking the system with zero clipping/dropouts ! This was inside the store and we all know how RF noisy a Rat Shack is.

Other systems- It can decode Bibb TRS P-25 no problem which I hold around S-1/S-2. Bibb is a 3600 baud system (clue??)...I can decode Ft Benning's P-25 (over 70m away w/ my Mil discone) 380mhz system with virtually no clipping. P-25 Feds in the 160mhz range- crisp and clear S-1 to S-5..

I'm no system expert, so my theory is the radio gets confused due to the multi site characteristics. Its difficult to pin the problem on the 9600 baud since this is the only 9600 system i've tracked.. Or hardware issues with my card?

Comments welcomed!

i havent had a 96 in almost 2 years so i dont remember.

you do need the base, spacing and the offset in order to pick it up. check the manual on how to set it up for that system.

I've tried all that it still doesn't do right. I can see TGID's come up but no audio when on scan but in manual I can here things. Other than Robins AFB I have no probrems with Houston Cnty and surrounding communities.

well the base doesnt operate at full power like the county trs does. since theres no fcc listing i dont know what the output power is. since theres alot of trees around your area it doesnt help any.

About 5-6 years ago the base changed over to a narrow band system. I don't know if we can even pick it up with the scanners we have.
